Black Thorne, my understanding is that part of the "blind stomach" is anchored to the abdominal wall and a non magnetic ring is also placed there. The ring is visible on X-rays, and marks the spot where a small insision can be made to scope the blind stomach directly. I'm not a health professional, but that's the basics. It is probably best to notify ER personnel about this so they don't think we swallowed a ring! LOL Doug

I should clarify what I said about my ulcer, it was in the stomach pouch, at the stoma, not the "blind" stomach.

i do not have a ring and cannot be scoped in the old tummy. I can only be dignosed with CT Scans. BUT, the rest of my digestive system can be scoped and believe you me, it has been many times.

Colleen, I am one of the unlucky ones to suffer from ulcers pretty much for the last year. I not only have them in my pouch, I also have them in my "old" stomach or at let my gastro doc thinks I do. It often makes it difficult to eat, especially meat. I also get pains where my old tiummy is and sometimes they are bad enough it feels almost like I'm having a heartattack. It sucks. But with treatment I;m getting better. Make an appointment or get a refferal to see a gastro doctor, preferably one that has done endoscopes on gastric bypass patients. I wish you luck and I hope you feel better soon. Hugs, Jane

It's been a long time since I've posted, however I was released from the hospital 1 year ago today after having ulcers that bleed out. I nearly bleed to death. Was given a total of 18 units of blood along with 6 units of packed red cells to help me clot. They tried everything before having to remove more of my stomach and still had to take more. Now I'm told I have only 3 ounces left (I didn't have the extra stomach left like the RNY, mine was removed originally with the scopinaro procedure) -now my intestine routing is that of a DS'er, my stomach is the size of a larger RNY.... To top this off, my surgery was October 29th, 2005 - after HURTING HURTING HURTING they scoped me again in January to find that I have another ulcer in my 3 ounce stomach. My current chance of bleeding out is 90%. Due to the size of my stomach and the routing of the intestines, I was told to eat every 2 hours or less just so that I can maintain nutrients..... On 14 different medications daily for all that ells me.. I'm open for suggestions if anyone has any.... Hope all works out for you an anyone eles having problems with thier new stomachs / pouches. I wouldn't wish my stomach pains on anyone every. Take care Staci
