Still losing...

Hey all, I am looking for adice on how to stop losing- I know that sounds weird. I started off my journey 16 months ago weighing 422 pounds. I now weigh 187. I would like to keep losing but my Dr. suggested that I don't only due to the fact that I have at least 15-18 pounds of extra skin that needs to be removed. How does someone slow the weight loss down? If anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate it. Thanks!

I think you shouldn't worry about trying to slow the weight loss down. Keep going. You're at 187 pounds. You still could lose more you have to worry and by then your body will stop. Extra skin doesn't weigh too much. Plus once you stop losing there is the bounce back of 10 to 15 pounds so you want to be down lower for that. Another reason I say that is because we don't need much reason to eat. We are compulsives. That is why we reached the weights we were. So be flattered your doctor suggested that but KNOW BETTER. know you have more room to lose before you stop. Good Luck. Koukla

Only you can decide if you think you are at goal or not (with the extra skin weight, of course). The way to slow down or stop the weight loss is to add extra calories which is a scary concept, of course. Do it slowly/gradually. Seems simplistic but it is all about calories in versus calories burned. Good luck, Kathy

Hi, My Dr. said get to your goal weight..forget the skin..and stay at goal for a year before having PS. The PS said you dont want to gain or loose weight after you have PS..so get to you goal weight get stablized and count that skin when its gone. How I figured my goal was i went to the high end of normal BMI then if you had the PS you would still be in normal range. I went from 315 to 139...I dont get to have PS so i just get cute small clothes to cover the extra skin : ) You are doing great congrads! I woulnt worry about stopping looseing, get all you can off. My body sort of just stopped and now i have to watch it so i dont gain. Its a task so take all you can get while you can. Just my 2 cents worth. Have a great day. Cha

OOPS! I was reading your replies and noticed I had posted my weight- I was wrong! I weigh 178 NOT 187- not sure if that makes a difference but I really appreciate all your advice. Thanks~

To slow down your weight loss, yes, add extra calories to your day. However, if you continue to lose beyond what is healthy, and you're having trouble stopping it, talk to your doctor about pancreatic enzymes. I would only do that, however, as a last resort. --BT

Hi, I just read your post on pancreatic enzymes. Do you have any info on that. I just came out of the hospital after 8 days in there. He said something about my pancreatic enzymes. He has me on meds. I am down to only 94 lbs. He wants me back up to 120. I stay sick a lot........... thanks Amy
