Anyone gain weight from strength training?
Hi everyone! I am mostly a lurker but wanted to see if others are experiencing or have what I have. For about 7 months I was religious to my jazzercise which is 45 min of cardio and 15 of strength training. I was attending 3-5 classes per week. During that time I gained about 10 pounds, and my clothes got tighter. And I was completely beside myself. About a month ago I had a tummy tuck so I haven't exercised in a month. I cannot wait to go back to exercising and will probably be cleared on the 30th. I enjoy exercising so much and my blood pressure was perfect 110/60 which I have never had in my life, I felt so healthy and I had defined muscles that I was proud of.
But anyway.........I have dropped 10 pounds since my TT and I kind of think it is from not exercising. Anyone else believe this or have this happen. But this morning to have the scale say 121 I was like woohoo! My all time low was 118, and the day of my TT I was 131. What do you guys think?? Any theories?? I imagine I had max 3-5 pounds of skin removed. E-mail me if you want the password to my pics. Looking forward to hearing from everyone.

Very much so - muscle is heavy, so the more muscle you build, the more likely you are to see a higher average number on the scale. But remember that's all it is - a number on the scale. If you like the way you look, your clothes fit, you're healthy, and feeling great, don't let the scale tell you otherwise.

Hi Marianne,
I use pilates and have not been able to do exercise regularly since June. I was stuck 7at 140 until I June when I had a tummy/butt lft. Skin amounted to 7 lbs. Within 3 weeks I was 20 lbs lighter and I am sure it was because I wasn't using my pilates performer which builds muscle. In late July was was given okay to resume and didn't loose another lb. I had a breast reduction/lift 3 weeks ago so stopped pilates again the last 3 weeks and I have lost another 5 lbs so I agree its the muscle. I saw my bariatric surgeon Monday (16th) and he couldn't stop smiling. He told me not to overdo or worry about my exercise knowing I am haven't been doing much since June.
I started an extensive weight training program about a month ago . I have noticed a 2 lb increase .. I knew it would happen as muscle weighs more .. I was tired of looking waify ... and it is def helping .. My clothes fit .. and I look the same except for more definition in my arms and chest .. whoo hooo ...
I can not do cardio as I loose weight quick ... so I do minimal .. but continue to run .. I am a runner and feel like a penned up doggy if I do not get out there to run .. and I love the weight training ... I get so much out of it ..
Hugs .. and you look marvelous ..

yes!
when I started seriously working out I went up about 8 pounds over a period of several months. My measurements stayed the same and I look more toned. many people started asking if I had lost more weight.
weight is just a number on the scale and bmi is also just a number. Neither tell the whole story. having a body fat % in the normal range, a low cholesterol and normal blood pressure, the number of times a week & how long I work out, and the numbers of reaching my nutrtional requirements, the numbers on the labs that tell my I am well nourished are the numbers to care about.
