Hello. I am 14 months out of surgery and down 90 pounds. I haven't lost weight for several months so maybe have stopped at 135 (I'd like to be 125 at 5'3" so am upping the exercise). The reason I'm writing is that I am still having trouble digesting protein. I just finished 1/2 of a boca burger and feel nauseus. It is so discouraging that everything healthy that I try to eat like tuna, fish, chicken, etc will not settle. I am living on protein shakes to get my protein in. Carbs are not a problem. I can eat Special K low carb protein cereal, milk, cheese, and things like that. Unfortunately, I can also eat all the sugar I want without dumping so really have to control myself!! Will this get better at this point? I am so sad and discouraged about this. Someone told me to try enzymes. Has anyone tried this? Thanks so much for your help, Diane

Diane , I too suffer from not being able to get in dense proteins . I manage getting in my protein by suppliments . I can do some chicken .. and pork , but no Beef ... nadda .. and it usally hits me in the evenings . I do use Papaya enzymes . These help greatly . I would not be caught with out them . I have some literature on protein and motabolism . If you want it I can email it to you . My suggestion would be to jump start .. to check your protein grams . Try to up them to 120 grams .. along with getting back to exercise .. and more water . These 3 things will fuel your motabolism like fire . Best wishes to you and keep us posted ! Nat

Thanks for replying, Nat. I am sorry you are going through the same thing. I am just so curious about why we have trouble with something that is so good for us (protein). I know I need to up it, but I can't get in another drop of those icky shakes. I just hope this gets better. Diane

Diane, be sure to use an Isolate protein (better absorbtion) below is a recipe for a home made protein bar. Hope this helps. Protein Nutrition Bar Recipe A nice meal replacement bar at a mere fraction of the cost of packaged protein bars and none of their glycerin, preservatives, or sugar, these low-fat bars are rich in fiber and taste great with a light spread of natural peanut butter across the top. Served with a protein drink, they make a well-balanced meal. Ingredients: 3 1/2 cups quick oats 1 1/2 cups powdered non-fat milk 1 cup sugar-free (diabetic) pancake syrup (Cozy Cottage, Cary's or Howard's brand) 2 egg whites, beaten 1/4 cup orange juice 1 tsp Vanilla 1/4 c. natural applesauce* 4 scoops chocolate or vanilla protein powder Directions: Preheat oven to 325°. Mix all dry ingredients in bowl and blend well. In separate bowl, combine eggwhites, orange juice, applesauce, & the sugar-free syrup and blend well. Stir liquids into dry ingredients until blended. The consistency will be thick and similar to cookie dough. Spread batter on baking sheet coated with non-stick spray. Use a 9x12 baking dish if you want a thicker bar. Bake until edges are crisp and browned. Cut into 10 bars and store in airtight container or freeze. *If you find you want a moister bar, add a little more applesauce to the recipe for softness. **The brand of protein used in this recipe contained 200 calories, 4 g carb, 44 g protein, 2 g fat, and 2 g fiber. Use your low-carb whey of choice. Nutritional Information: Per Serving: Calories- 157 Carbs- 23g Protein- 15g Fat- .5 g Fiber- 4 g
