Gotta go back to the liver clinic monday
Well as some of you know i've been dealing with high liver enzymes for awhile now. since i had my one year labs done in february. i went to the liver clinic here in st. louis at the request of my gastro...he just couldn't figure out what was wrong. all tests were negitive and the biopsy was good. anyway went to the liver clinic in august and had a bunch of testing done again and i have to go back on monday for the results (which to me is weird to wait and not even get a letter or phone call). so just wanted to request that everyone think of me and pray that my levels are going down or are back to normal. otherwise i don't know what the deal is with this freakin' liver of mine!! THANKS!!
Hey Stephanie,
Hope you get the info you need to take care of your liver. My liver enzymes were elevated prior to my surgery and then six months later they were even higher! I had my GB out and they are slowly resolving. At my one year check up...six months after the GB removal they were better but still a tad high. I'll have them checked again in January.
I'm coming to St. Charles this weekend. We moved away from there about three years ago and my daughters still live there. I miss it! But my one daughter is moving to Nashville...only one hour from my house so that is great!
Hope you have a good day,
Cindy

I keep telling the doctors to just remove my GB but they won't. i was in the hospital in may for severe pains but they didn't find anything on the ultrasound except sludge. anyway...thanks for the post and i hope the numbers are better or they have at least figured out what is the problem.
I hope you have fun this weekend. I think it's going to be cold though. i think we might hit main street st.charles... if it's nice and eat at one of the wineries down there. maybe hit the casino since it's right there too!! anyway...have a fantastic weekend!!
I was dealing with the same thing. My liver enzymes were normal before surgery but when the surgeon got inside, he thought the liver didn't look right so he opted for a liver biopsy INSTEAD of removing the gallbladder. Now, my liver enzymes have been going up and up since surgery and my surgeon sent me to a liver specialist. Apparently things are getting a bit better so they are going to take my gallbladder out on Tuesday. Sometimes, if something gets stuck in the bile ducts the symptoms show up in the liver tests. Hopefully it's something you can DO about it. Good luck
well it does make me feel better to know that i'm not alone in this! my enzyme levels get higher every time they check them. the doctors are all just scratching their heads right now! good luck to you on your GB surgery on tuesday! i'll say something to the doctor about the bile ducts on monday!! thanks for the info...i'll keep everyone informed after i see the dr. on monday of what he says.
I just went over to WedMD, reading up on the liver. This is from their site:
Some of the specific functions of the liver include:
Controlling the amounts of sugar (glucose), protein, and fat entering the bloodstream.
Removing bilirubin, ammonia, and other toxins from the blood. (Bilirubin is a by-product of the breakdown of hemoglobin from red blood cells.)
Processing most of the nutrients absorbed by the intestines during digestion and converting those nutrients into forms that can be used by the body. The liver also stores some nutrients, such as vitamin A, iron, and other minerals.
Producing cholesterol, substances that help blood clot, bile, and certain important proteins, such as albumin.
Breaking down (metabolizing) many drugs.
Notice the first item, controlling sugar. Haven't you been having a time with your sugar? I also found item #3 very interesting as related to WLS folks.
I hope all goes well.
Becky
Hey Becky...yeah you're right i have been dealing with low blood sugar a lot but since i've switched my diet over the past few weeks the low blood sugar episodes are far less. although the low blood pressure episodes are back again. it's so weird. at first we weren't too worried about the high levels because of the weight loss but mine has been pretty stable since february. i've gone up and down 10-15 pounds but nothing major. that's why we can't figure out why they aren't progressively going down they're still going up. this clinic i'm going to is supposed to be one of the best there is so i'm hoping this doctor will know more! thanks for looking up all that info...it's very interesting.
