Hypoglycemia/Diabetes-3 year update!
Hello lovely people-I am reposting this from the main board. One of the "grads" said there has been a lot of talk about this.
I went for my three year check up today. The doctor was very happy with my progress. Had a couple of east issues:
1. I was placed on Paxil one month ago and gained 10 pounds and that was no surpise to either of us (Paxil is notorious for weight gain). Went to see my psychiatrist first thing in the am and requested a change to Lexapro. Shrink said the weight should come off as quickly as it came on!
2. I have been experiencing pain in my lower abdomin. I wasn't sure it was another hernia or what. Doc said to wait and watch and we'll check it again in 3 months.
***** The most surprising thing was that he wants me to get my sugars checked (going on Friday). I have been getting hypglycemic lately (last 4months). Doc said that it may be a form of diabetes!! After losing 230 pounds???? He explained that the pancreas secretes insulin when we are obese. When we lose the weight it still secretes. It's becoming a very often seen "side effect" of weight loss surgery.
So...we'll see! I'll update after I get my labs taken on Friday.
Other then that I have lost and KEPT OFF 70% of my excess weight for THREE YEARS!!! Can't believe the 16th will be my third birthday!!
Love you all and continue to visit nightly. It's been 4 years since I have been a member here!!

Hey Marcy ! Congrats to you on your docs visit . I looked at your profile and remember you from when I first came to OH 2.5 years ago .. WOW you have done amazing .
I now suffer from low blood sugar .. opposite from what I had when I first started . Not to mention I have what they call a runners heart and runners blood pressure .
It seems to be cropping up more on longer term post ops .
Well congrats again .. and glad to have ya back .

Hey Natalie ... I was admitted to the hospital last August (not for what originally brought me there) ... but they ended up keeping me for observation because my heart rate was at 40 (and I don't *really* work out), but I think I've always had a pretty low heart rate and blood pressure. BUT, I am also being tested for hypoglycemia and to see how much insulin my pancreas is producing ... I'm trying to pull together a bunch of the previous posts here and like experiences to take a look at commonalities.

I wanted to tell you this as well . I am getting ready to undergo treatment for a tumor on my right adrenal gland . They somehow think that the tumor may be producing hormones that are making my sugar wack .. I will be going to the National Institues of Health here in MD .. I am going to see if they are doing a study on this .. and if not I am going to ask for a protocol to be started for investigation . I am not sure how to do this , but is worth a shot for us .. there are so many now posting this same occurance .
Best wishes to you ,
Nat
