I'm at work, and don't have my notes with me, I'm 1 year out and I just can't remember right now, what happens when I drink too quickly after eating. I'm supposed to wait 1/2 after eating right. But WHY....it stretchs the pouch right??? Ladies help me....

Drinking to soon after eating, washes the food out of the pouch quicker, which can cause hunger sooner. Dana

My question then is....does that mean what we just ate, all the fat (and nutrients of course) won't get into our system? I'm just wondering....thanks for any and all info!! Holly

Holly, my understanding is no you do not wash out all of the nutrients, fats, carbs, etc. It pushes the food out of the pouch, in the intestines, where you still absorb to some degree. Hopefully someone with more knowledge here will chime in. Dana

When I do that, it hurts. It doesn't seem like it washes anything out of the pouch, but it hurts. Even at almost 2 years post-op, it hurts. sue o.

I was told that the pouch could not accomodate food and liquids at the same time. It could cause stretching of the pouch and that liquids would only push foods through to the intestines causing even more poor absorption and hunger later on. I was told to choose to drink 30-45 minutes before or after all meals.
