Still having food issues?
Hi All, I'm 16 months post op and still cannot eat veggies other than a little lettuce and really mushy steamed zuccini. I cannot eat more than a bite of rice or noodles either, nor can I eat more than a thin slice of bread (mostly I eat the crust) Now, I have always liked veggies and really miss them, especially broccoli which is my fav. Wondering if anyone else this far out is still having foods they cannot tolerate. Can any of you long termers tell me if this ever resolves? I also am still limited to the type of meat and fish I can tolerate as well. Makes for a boring diet. My surgeon says most people can tolerate most foods this far out, but I am not finding this so.
One last thing regarding dumping. I never experienced dumping until recently when I had two horrible, awful expereinces. Is this weird? Actually, I am kind of glad I do dump as sweets were always my enemy...but I think that is the closest to feeling like dying that I ever wish to come.
Any input is helpful.
Best,
Merril
I am a year further out than you, and I was about the same place then as you are now. For me, I now can tolerate more raw veggies and most meats, but not all. I can also eat a small amount of rice or pasta without getting sick. So hang in there, it will probably get better. I agree it is a blessing to not tolerate sugar. It is better you are not having the carbs from bread or pasta now either. Recently, since I can eat more I had my first weight gain (7 pounds) which of course freeked me out.
Try sauces with meat or fish - Susan Maria's site has alot of easy low cal/low carb ideas. Adds nice flavor and helps things slide down better.
Good luck.

Merril,
I find kale, cabbage, collard greens & asparagus works better for me. I can eat lettuce too. As for Broccoli i can only eat it in small quantities, makes me full too fast. I love vegetables but need to get my protein in first so I only have small amounts of vegies. It will increase for you eventually and you can get back to enjoying vegetables.

I'm alot like you. I still can't do most veggies and definitely not raw veggies! I do no care for breads or pastas at all~I think b/c they don't sit well in my tummy and make me feel like crap if I eat them. I prefer chicken over red meat, but I can tolerate ground beef sometimes~I tried a nice tender steak but it felt like a brick! I still eat alot of cottage cheese and yogurt, LOL. I can do salad though~I like it with lettuce, deli shaved turkey or chicken, cheese, croutons and ranch~YUM! I also had 1 dumping experience about a month ago~it was terrible and my own fault! I'm an emotional eater and I got emotional and ate some sugar~Wrong Move for Sure!
Good Luck to You!

I just celebrated three years (8/8) and still cannot tolerate fresh fruits and vegetables. Canned or cooked are ok. I thought this has been the biggest let down for me since I am supposed to be eating healthy. I have found that I can eat fudge, candy, and other sweets and some sweets just make me feel dizzy. Yet if I try to have a strawberry, banana, grapes, watermelon (all my favs) I get terribly sick. I can no longer drink milk (thankful for lactaid) but forget cottage cheese. I cannot eat salad either. I have not had a problem with meats, (except eggs bother me if they are not hard boiled). I was hoping this would change over time because I love tomatoes and fruit. So for now, I'm stuck with canned fruit. I am glad I found this board since I wondered if anyone else had trouble with veggies. I think it's cruel to not be able to have what i need and to be able to have what I shouldn't. Also, if I do eat out (fast food), I can tell after the first bite if it's not 100% ground beef as I cannot tolerate fillers. (soy or whatever they use) The tummy doesn't lie, so no more McD, Taco Bell, and yes to Wendy's & In & Out. (not that I eat out much)
