Numbness...B12 issue??

I have noticed for the last 2 days that I have a weird sensation down the back of my left leg & left arm. I did run out of B12 this week and haven't had a chance to get any more. Right after my rny, my pcp said that our bodies store it up for a while so I'm not sure if me running out of b12 is the true issue. I work in an orthopedic office, so I know its not a muscle or back issue. It just feels itchy, tingly aggrivating type sensation. I think I am going to make an appt w/ my pcp to get my labs checked. It has been about a year. I take 2 chewable multi-vitamins, sublingual b12 2500 mcg, biotin, and my hormone pill everyday. I did have an issue with b12 about 2 yrs ago and the dr said I needed injections 5x 1wk, then 1/wk x 1 month, then sublinguals daily should be fine. I don't remember having any skin issues though.. Any thoughts?? Thanks By the way, my husband had shingles a long time ago, he mentioned it may be something like that. Georgina

It could be B12 but you might want to get the other Bs checked too. I had some issues and changed from a B50 complex to a B100 complex and that seemed to make it go away so something was low. There is also other blood tests that indicate whether you are utilizing the B12 you have properly...one is homocysteine and the other is MMA. Kathy

I was told that my B-12 would have to be under 200 to cause this issue. Any idea where you are at now?

Under 400 is very chancey...I keep mine around 1500. I do 500 mc sublingual daily and injections every two weeks. Darlene

I'm sorry, I should have been more clear. I meant the level that it comes back at when you have your blood work done would have to under 200 to cause this problem is what I was told by Dr. Williams. Becky

Thanks for the responses, I'm not sure what my labs are yet. But I will try to get to the dr this week. Also, my jeans and shirts seem to aggravate my skin too. My husband looked at it and didn't notice anything. Anyway, I just got home from getting my b12, I'm not taking any kind of other b vitamin other than my 2 chewable multi-vitamin. Just not sure?????? I don't remember what the minimum/maximum recommended doses for B vitamins are, but I DO remember that you can overdose on them. It can cause nerve damage -- tingling, and trouble moving legs, and so forth. In the early 70s, I believe, a number of young women overdosed on B vitamins and had numbness, tingling, and trouble walking. I believe most of it was reversable after a while. Please check it out.
