Yep, that's why long distance runners have to eat those gels packs and such to give their body sugars to burn. Kathy

Thank you!! A most enlightening conversation. I read the entire thread and learned a lot. So what I am hearing (in sumation) is that I need to work out doing cardio for no more than 90 min per day. Currently I'm doing about 65 min. of fast walking. I should alternate cardio days with strength training and should keep my heart rate within my range for my age--right? Then the body won't catabolize the muscle and I will have the most bennefits. Trisha

that sounds like what I am reading! I am enjoying working out and learning more about getting more fit! I have jumped right in with no real education etc, except a few sessions with a trainer 4 years ago, right before I had surgery, and my needs and abilities have changed a LOT since then. I know I am in good shape, but want to improve, mainly because I know I can. And it feels so good to see myself improving, knowing where I started and that then I was out of breath climbing one set of stairs and 5 minutes on the treadmill was really difficult. my main standard has been - what ever it is must be better than laying on the couch eating cookies, but I want to go beyond that LOL!
