WEll, I went to the doctor and even though I have only had one episode, I went ahead with his recommendation and am scheduled to have gall bladder surgery on Nov. 16. I have been advised by many WLS sister that its better to get it out now then wait until the pain begins. ANY recommendations will be greatly appreciated.

i don't have a recommendation for you but i wanted to wish you the best on the surgery. i wish my doctor would go ahead and take mine out. i get a lot of pains in that area often but they keep telling me there is nothing wrong with it. ARGGGGG...just take it out anyway! but NOOOO they won't. anyhow good luck to you and i wish you a speedy recovery. November is still a ways off though. hopefully you won't have another episode before they can get it out.

Wow, that's a long way off. I had mine out laproscopically last October - months after WLS. I went home 3 hours after hitting the recovery room. I felt very good. We even stopped at a restaurant on the way home and I got broth since they told me to eat lunch. The next day I stopped at a birthday party for an hour to say hello. Went to work 2 days later. Been fine since. Hope your experience is as easy as mine was! Kathy

I had mine out laproscopically in 1993 - I was sleeping on my stomach that night. It was a very simple procedure and no problems at all. Best of luck! Michelle

I knew I had stones pre-op, but had no symptoms, so my gall bladder remained for nearly 2 years. Then came the first attack and it was a doozey!!! So a month later I had it taken out, laproscopically. I missed work the day of the surgery as I thought that trying to work while unconscious wouldn't be good. On the other hand, I wondered if anyone would notice and I'm unconscious a lot, but that's another story!!! Anyway, my surgery was on a Friday and I returned to work the following Monday! The secret to my success?? I loaded up on protein to promote HEALING and it sure did work! Now that I'm only a month post-op from the lap chole, my scars are healing VERY nicely!! Thanks Protein!!!
