I was reading on here the other day about rebound hypoglycemia. I would like to hear more about this. For a few months now I have been having "spells" where I get the shakes, sweaty, just plan old sick. I tested my blood level this week after an episode after I had alreadt eaten a banana and some yogurt and it was only 70. I hate these episodes. They leave me tired and exhausted and I would like to know if anyone else has had similar situations. I am almost 2 years out and doing well in my weight control, still struggleing with good food choices but getting there Julie

My husband and I (both had wls) get these occasionally. Usually about an hour after we have eaten too many bad carbs. I'm sure others will post about the good carb/bad carb issue. I think it helps to eat some protein or a small piece of candy. I hope this helps. I know others will respond with more info. God bless! Georgina

i have this quite often and yep it's usually after eating bad carbs without any protein with them. but mine "spells" don't hit until my blood sugar level is 60 or below. are you sure you're not dumping on the yogurt or the banana? because i think 70 is still considered in the normal blood sugar range. i ask about the dumping because sometimes the symptoms are so similar. when my blood sugar drops low i feel like i could eat a house. when i dump i just feel aweful for awhile sometimes i just have to sleep and i'm better.

Hi Julie, I have low-sgr issues like you describe...and at that point I pop a mint (made with real peppermint oil) and I feel better within minutes. I also eat a banana everyday...that doesn't seem to have an effect on the sgr drops that I go through. I don't experience what others are describing regarding carbs...(but they do result in excessive gas for me! Sorry...TMI.) Good luck!!! Laurie

The info that came with my glucose meter says anything below 80 is considered hypo. I wonder it that's because it measures the sugar in whole blood verses a lab that uses plasma or serum. Plasma or serum normal values are 70-110. Anything below 80 and I feel like crap. Shakey, sweaty, weak. The difference for me with dumping is that when I dump, I feel sick to my stomach, like I wish I could barf but the feeling is farther down in the gut than the pouch. I've had one sugar as low as 48 and felt really bad then. Try not to combat it with candy if you can. Someone said peanuts and raisins works well. Raisins are pretty sweet and the protein and fat of the peanuts would help slow down the raisins effects.

Hey Julie ... my docs want me to do a glucose tolerance test because about 3 weeks ago I collapsed and had a grand mal seizure. The rescue squad measured my blood sugar at 23. They were able to get it up to 177, but it had tanked to the low 50s by the time I got to the hospital. It is also believed this happened to me at the end of May as well (I was passed out in a ladies room when I was in Dallas), but the paramedics never checked my blood sugar levels and left me there. I'll dig up the articles I've found, but I still have more questions than answers myself. Karyn
