Liver detox

I went to a naturapath today and he told me the pain I've been having is from my liver and not my gall bladder. Yes the GB is affected, but the source of my problem in my liver and thyroid. Has anyone done anything like a detox after surgery? Christy

i have done a liver detox tea but it didn't do anything. my liver enzyme levels were still super high! i'm going through a whole process with my liver and no one can seem to figure it out. all tests come back negative and my weight has been leveled off for awhile now so they don't know why the numbers keep going up instead of down. sorry i'm not a big help but the herbal detox teas didn't do a thing for me and the doc told me that milk thistle may or may not help...there's no proof that it really works he said. if you find something that works please let me know.

Stephanie...what kind of vitamins do you take? I was having the same trouble with my liver. I was taking pre-natals....and my PCP finally made me quit. I took NO vitamins for 2 weeks...then a kiddie gummy for 6 weeks....and had another lab test...and was shocked to see my liver function was back to normal. She said I was storing way too much vitamin A....the pre natals were just too much and the A was damaging my liver. I think some of us absorb a lot more of this stuff than we think...and we take such high powered vitamins....it could have a negative effect. I am not trying to diagnose...just a suggestion. Interesting Charlie. Very interesting. I've switched vitamins a few times. I was taking Centrum Silvers but had other issues so I ditched 'em because they had nutrasweet. Then I was taking Luv Bites from Vitamin Shoppe (childrens). Now I'm taking chewables from Wegmans (childrens). I've been trying milk thistle for a while. Hope to get my doc to recheck my liver in 10 days when I see her. Hugs, Kathy

BTW, were your Vitamin A levels high?

Kathy...she didn't say. I'm not even sure she checked vitamin A levels....just took her word for it. I'll ask her though the next time I'm in. I remember she kept mumbling about too much vitamin A....it took me several visits and a threat to get me to stop the pre-natals. She said A is one of the vitamins the liver can't filter well....and once my levels dropped....I figured she was right. I don't know if they test for A levels...I know they do for B12. Hugs Charlie

hey charlie...i am taking prenatals but i just ran out and got a regular woman's multi. i thought i read that on here before about someone having those problems and they were on the prenatals that's why i decided to stop when i ran out this time. thanks for the info...i hope that is what the problem for me is!!

If you are taking pre-natals...I'd be willing to bet a tub of protein mix thats what it is. She had me off vitamins altogether for 2 weeks. Didn't hurt me a bit. She said it would take quite some time to develop vitamin deficiency because I eat well. So 2 weeks was not a problem...then 6 weeks of kiddie vitamins (which I'm still taking because I bought a bottle at Sams and got like 4 million of em). I plan to switch to a good regular liquid vitamin after that. Actually...she wants me to stay on the kiddie gummy because they don't have too much of anything...and she says they ARE a liquid.....I guess I'm just paranoid. Good luck... Hugs Charlie

ok i'm ditching the prenatals and going for the regular vits. i think i was really screwing myself up and taking 2 of them a day!! that's what my doctor told me to do in the beginning and never said to go down to one but i think i'm going to go to one with the reg multi for awhile and see if that helps. thanks for the info!!

Hey Charlie - my lil beach buddy in crime! I had the SAME thing happen with me - just in the last 3 or 4 months, the YEARLY labs came back and my Vitamin A levels were way too high, to the point of being toxic. Who'da thunk that too much of a vitamin can actually become poisonous? Anyway - I was also taking TWO prenatals a day, for the last three years. She had me detox for a week, then switch to just ONE prenatal a day and an additional MULTI every other day. Sometimes this VITAMIN crappola can be so confusing - it's a fine line between TOO much and NOT enough, ya know?
