Low blood sugar-
If you have to have the sweet, have a portion of protein before and about 1 hour after. It is better to avoid the junk, but you know that and I am not perfect either. (that is why I know the protein trick works for me)
I almost passed out one day at target, grabbed a bag of peanuts by the check out line and started eating them before I even paid for them. gave money to the cashier and went to my car and just sat there a while, until I felt better. that scared me a little. I keep peanut butter crackers, protein bars or something in my car just in case. I keep them in the trunk, then I can't eat them for a snack while driving, because eating while driving was one of my MO habits, but they are there if I really need them. and if I am feeling hypoglycemic I should be pulling over anyways.
I went to my dr because I was occasionally having a racing irregular heartbeat, had the 24 hour holter monitor and in writing down my activities through out the day realized it was happening after I ate, and finally put the pieces together on what was happening. I was dumping from eating too fast at work, and my occasional bad eating.
Trudi... I have been having low blood sugar alot lately. I was told to eat peanuts and raisins together. So I take a box of raisins and 1 jar of peanuts and mix well, then I put 1/2 cup in a snack baggie and I have them in my car and purse - just in case. it makes for a great snack at nite when I'm watching tv. I was told that this is common to those out over a year. Take care...deb k The protien stays with you alot longer.

it is important to eat COMPLEX carbs. with lots of fiber to release the energy into your blood stream slowly. combine it with some protein and remember simple sugars are poison for those with reactive hypogylcemia and will make your blood sugars rollercoaster.
