Atkins Diet?
The only problem with the Atkins diet is that they don't really restrict fats in the diet; you can eat lots of bacon, butter, etc., which can slow weight loss. What I follow is closer to the South Beach plan, which restricts carbs and encourages lower-fat choices.
The number of calories you want to take in is dependent on a lot of things---how much you exercise, how fast your metabolism is, etc. I would suggest you consult your program dietitian to figure this out.
When my weight loss slowed, I kicked up my exercise, both cardio and strength training, to get off the last 20-30 pounds. It worked!
