Why do I go there??? Someone please remind me to never venture away from this or the Iowa board again. I get so frustrated with the main board. Today it was - I'm 4 days out, can I eat Chinese?????? Some are so clueless. I had to respond to that one and then make a general one to all new post ops. I got applause for the original post and flamed for my response to Chinese. I wasn't surprised. People just don't or won't take responsibility for their own actions. I take responsibility for my obesity. It was me, all me stuffing my face. Well, I do have a thyroid condition and insulin resistance, but ultimately, it was what I put into my mouth. Until they can admit that, this surgery will never work. I feel really sorry for those who are desprately trying to have this surgery and can't, when there are people out there who have had it and are totally clueless. GRRRR! Okay, that's my rant for the month. I'll go back to lurking.

I hear ya Lyn, I never go the OH Main either. Most of the time it just seems people are looking to pick fights or looking for ways to work around their tool. I just don't understand it either. I am with ya sister, Sharon

I have pretty much stopped posting on the main board. I feel so *snarky* I want to be supportive - but I can't anymore. I just want to scream at the computer screen when I see people asking for validation on REALLY STUPID CHOICES. I'msorry - I am a nice person, but I just can't take the main board anymore. It just seems that everyone wants to eat pizza and down cokes the minute they get out of surgery - because they have their magic pill. (going back into hiding... maybe I should take a valium). Laura

Lyn, know what's even MORE frustrating...? That these people somehow GOT their surgery without being able to show this BASIC common sense! How come they are pushed through? ****** me off. I do agree with your frustration, however, in all fairness, if they haven't been properly trained for the tool, then they might really just not know. I think we should send flaming messages to the surgeons that perform those surgeries for not having that information DRILLED into their patients minds before allowing them to HAVE that surgery! I had a "friend" that actually went to Cracker Barrel with his wife, as a THANK-YOU for all her support for the first two weeks post-op...then he proceeded to post that he ate a FULL course meal, 2 rolls, 2 large cokes and a salad. He was TWO WEEKS POST-OP and wanted to know if that was tooooo much food!!! I thought MY GOD, HE COULD HAVE LITERALLY KILLED HIMSELF! I was lucky to get 3 ounces of FLUID in at 2 weeks out! I was sooo angry...a little with his ignorance, but moreso that he OVIOUSLY wasn't given the basic information needed to be sucessful in his journey! Both the ignorance and the medical shortfall ****** me off.......some places just push patients through like a herd of cattle...and other people don't want to take the responsibility to RESEARCH and COLLECT the info they should naturally WANT to know...

Hi Lyn, I am in the process of having my rny (probably in early march) and I agree with you. I don't know alot, but I have been hanging out here in the 1yr plus board. I hope you all on this board don't mind. It seems the information and the questions on the main board (not all) seems like pranksters are messing around. I don't know for sure, but I have learned alot from this board. I am insured by Kaiser and we have to attend 6 months of classes (very informative) and we are at the point to where we try to live by the post-op diet (not the first few months after surgery), but say 3 to 6 months after. I hope my questions are not to stupid. Please forgive me in advance if I do. Vickie

Hi Lyn, Vickie back again. I was wondering how you get all your water in? I mean could you tell me by discribing your daily routine. I read your profile and I know what you mean by the surgeon can fix my stomach, but not my head. Kaiser goes into alot of counceling on the emotions behind your eating, and uses behavior modification. I have more insight into my eating behaviors and I hope I can use all of these tools to be sucessful. One thing I have noticed on the OH site, is how many people go back to eating sugar and sodas. Kaiser says that you cannot have these for the rest of your life, is Kaiser to strict? Thank You, Vickie

I have never posted on the boards here ..but realized i needed support because I had gained weight back. Alot of weight back bt have lost back over half of what I gained and plan on losing the rest. Now for the post reply. When I had my surgery 12/2002 my surgeon required that I have a nutrition class, however he let me get out of it because I have a Bachelor's Degree in Healt Ed. you know the routing ...**you know what to do to help others but you dont put it to good use with yourself. *** HOWEVER a friend of mine had her surgery 6 months prior to mine and she is the one that got me to have mine. Now she was successful but she just didnt eat...she would chew her food and spit it out and she would drink REG cokes. She decided she wanted the surgery on Monday, found a doc that would do the surgery on Friday. she went from TN to TX to have the surgery. And there was NO NUTRITION class for her. She has had no complications but she was lucky that she didnt lose TOO much weight the way she was eating (or rather not really eating) So yes there ARE those that DO NOT offer nutrition classes and other that put them thru like cattle. I am so thankful I had OH while I was working on getting my surgery and thank all of you. CHeryl
