UPDATE: Elevated LFT's

Two months ago my LFT's were elevated and it was suspected that one of my pain medications was the culprit but two weeks after that they were still elevated. I then became very fatigued and could sleep all day. I had a CT of the abdomen, liver, and pancreas. It showed that I have several lesions on my liver one being 4 cms. My LFT's have since come back to normal so its not the pain medication. I believe it was from an allergic reaction that I had to Robaxin back in April. We just didn't know it affected my liver until the routine tests in July. The reaction I had to Robaxin was commonly known as a Drug Fever. I thought I had the flu for a week before I realized it was the drug causing the fever and joint pain. I was then put on Skelaxin for a muscle relaxer. I think that also contributed to the liver damage or lesions. Once I suspected the Skelaxin was causing the high LFT's it took just 2 weeks for the levels to start coming down. This is still my theory and I will go for a Ultrasound next week to look at the lesions. I also had some labs drawn that can show a possibility of cancer. I wont find those results for a couple of weeks due to my Dr going out of town for a week. I am going to insist on a liver biopsy just to make sure and give me peace of mind. I also think it was the Skelaxin that was causing my blood sugars to go so low. Since being off of it I haven't had any low blood sugars. I still feel very tired but the last couple of days I actually felt like working. Jen L.

I think there are a lot of things doctors will find out in the future about how WLS surgery patients are affected differently by drugs. I would be nuts if I were you. And to have to wait 2 weeks for results because the doc is on vacation would sent me into orbit! But, I'm not a very patient person. But it sounds like you are coping pretty well. I hope everything is okay. And if you think something is wrong or just want to be really sure there isn't, don't let them talk you out of the biopsy. I've heard of too many cases of other things where docs didn't think anything was wrong but there was.

I don't mind waiting. She really deserves a vacation! And I know if there was something pressing she would call me to tell me the results. Just like she did when the LFT's were elevated. I was out of town for the day and she left messages everywhere for me to call her, the doctor not the nurse. So I trust her. If for some reason it gets the best of me I can just go to the hospital and get a copy of the results myself. I do have to talk to her about the radiologists report of my CT scan. He/she compared it to my previous CT from 2004 and they mention having gastric plication ? (sp) Im assuming that is meaning my gastric bypass. hmmmm well I had gastric bypass in 2003 and had the first CT scan almost a year later. So not sure who is reading the films incorrectly, the first or this last one, but I think I want another reading or another radiologist to give their opinion. I didn't notice this discrepancy until yesterday. Jen L.
