Okay I'm 1 year out and yesterday I had a CT Scan and they found "slug". I had been having intense stomach pains and I went right away I didn't know if it was bowel obstruction, ulcer or what. You know with WLS one MUST be proactive and not seat around waiting. So I am making an appt with a specialist but do you have any tips of what I can do to avoid having to have surgery. I know one can't avoid the inevitable but I'm hoping maybe their are some pills I could take, maybe some type of supplements, type of eating methods that have worked for you. THANKS

i had an ultrasound done and i had sludge in my gallbladder too and they haven't done a thing about it. the drs. (and i've seen 3...my pcp,a gastroenterologist, and a gi specialist at a liver clinic) act like it's not a big thing unless you end up getting stones from the sludge. i wish they'd just take my gallbladder out and get it over with but they won't! dang it!!

Hey Sunshine, I can't help you much other than to tell you, if that "sludge" turns to stones you will wish they would of removed your gallbladder. I had mine removed and I had a sever amount of stones and thought I was dying from a heart attack on several occassions. Glad you called the Dr. Keep us updated! Sharon

THANKS, I just decided to call the doc. and make an appt to start the process of having it removed. I can't take the pain nor do I desire to "wait" until the pain begins to then find out and look and set a operation date. SO THANKS again and hopefully I won't have any problem in getting the doctor to do the surgery. I'm also do the lap version hoping to avoid a long term healing process.

I agree with the person that said once you have an attack you will wish you had the GB out -- they are intensely painful and very scary! I ended up in ER via ambulance because even our corporate DR couldn't tell whether I was having a heart attack or not. I had mine out last month, surgery was much easier because I weighed so much less, and no more GB pain for me! JSYK, my surgeon told me once you have an attack, the chances are VERY good that you will have others, so in some ways it's just a time bomb waiting to go off. Good luck to you whatever you decide.

I had gall stones when I was seven months pregnant with my daughter (who is now 13). Obviously they couldn't do surgery while I was pregnant so they told me to eat EXTREMELY low fat and it really stopped my symptoms. After she was born they scheduled a surgery for me when she was about 3 months old. However, I ended up getting a stone caught in the bile duct and I had to have emergency surgery seven weeks after she was born. I kept my fat grams to less than 5 grams/meal. I cut out all butter, cheeses, mayos, etc. except the fat free stuff. I ate very little meat except ground turkey breast or turkey or chicken for lunch meats. I was scared to eat anything because that pain was extremely bad - worse than almost anything I'd ever had before. I will tell you that I had my gall bladder removed laproscopic and I (seriously) was lying on my abdomen that night. It was an easy surgery. Michelle in WA
