So I have an MRI this afternoon and my doctors office has not called me back yet. They are doing an MRI of my back and when I had my x-rays done it said that multiple surtures were present on my left side. So when I was filling out the paperwork for the MRI it asks if you have any metal in your body.....so do we have metal in our body? Not something I had thought about - any ideas or experience with this. Becky

I believe the staples used in RNY surgery are titanium, but best bet would be to confirm with your RNY surgeon. I recently had an MRI of my shoulder and all was fine. Sue O.

Becky, I'm going through the same thing!! I'm having an MRI of my mid and lower spine in the next few days. My surgeon implants a little ring in the lower portion of the stomach (the one we're not using anymore). I did all the calling of the surgeon and the MRI tech and they talked and came to the conclusion that all is safe. Especially as far out as we are because scar tissue builds up around anything that may have come loose anyway and acts as an anchor. So, from my research in the last 2 days, all should be well, fine, and dandy!! Just for your own peace of mind, though, check with your surgeon and ask them what, if anything, they implanted, manufacturer, and model number. Tell these things to your MRI tech (or better still, have them fax any op reports to the tech) and they can tell you positively. That's what I did per the MRI tech's recommendations. HTH!! Michelle

I've had one and it was fine. The staples are titanium as are any clips that they leave in. Always good to ask and let them know. Kathy

yes, I have had an mri. the staples are titanium which show up on an x ray as they are metal. but they are not magnetic. no problems at all.
