Question about acceptable wt. range

Hey Everybody, I'm 14 months out and a little below goal, my question is what is your acceptable wt. range? I mean how many pounds do you allow yourself to fluxuate before you get serious about getting your weight back down....5 pounds, 10 pounds? I was about 6 pounds from goal when I had a hysterectomy and lower body lift three weeks ago. They took off 6 pounds of skin and I've lost a few pounds from having no appetite. My original goal weight was 134, currently I'm at 131...so should my upper limit be 134...135...is that reasonable do you think? Just wondering what others do to maintain. Thanks! Cindy 235/131

Both my Doctor and Nut have said a 5lbs in either direction should be normal range. Mary M. 415/159

Thanks Mary, That seems to be a reasonable guideline! C

Cindy, congrats on the LBL, how are you doing? I have been debating this same question. What is acceptable? I'm really hard on myself and freak out to see the scale go up even a couple of lbs, something I most definitely need to work on since water flucuation alone can make that happen. My goal weight was 130 lbs, I've surpassed that and for the most part have maintained between 121-124 lbs. I like 125 lbs as my top weight and at this point consider that as my stopping point. I did get a virus 2 weeks ago and currently I'm at 117 lbs, just no appetite right now. The mental part for me has been the toughest, just the fear of regain. I do believe for me to remain mentally sane I'll set my limit at 125 lbs. Dana

Hey Dana, I too have a big fear of regain, that's the reason that I want to find a healthy, acceptable range that I don't allow myself to exceed. I don't want to be a slave to the scale, or freak out over little fluxuations, but I don't want 5 pounds to turn into 10, which turns into 20 and I'm out of control again. We can do this!!!! Cindy

Cindy, I have JUST reached my goal - a size 12 jeans (never really had a specific weight # in mind) and I figure as long as I'm eating healthy (reasonable portions of lean protein, multi-grains, fruits, veggies, limiting any SF snacks/treats) then my body should take care of itself. I will be judging by clothing and how they fit me. That's just me, though, and like I said, I JUST (in the last few days) got to my goal! Hubby doesn't want me to lose anymore because I'm pretty boney now. At 5'8" I have a pretty good sized frame. I'm around 180 and My arms (except for the bat wings), shoulders and chest (except for the breasts and extra skin) are all bones. I feel my hip bones, etc. The only place with really anymore to lose would be my thighs, but they're even okay with me! Michelle

Hey Michelle, Sounds like you have found a healthy place for you, that's awesome! I'm only 5'4" tall and according to the charts...134 is my ideal weight. I feel good here and love my size clothing...4-6 in pants. I'm just really fearful of regain and want to hold myself accountable so that I don't turn around and have 20 pounds to lose!!! C

I asked this same question a little while back and I got a variety of answers~one said 2lbs, one said 10lbs, but most everyone answered with 5lbs. I am 5'9" and 150lbs and I'm giving myself 5lbs either way~goal weight is 150lbs. Most days I stay right around 150 when I weigh in. Congratulations on all of your success! Tracy B

Hey Tracy, I think I'm coming in on the same answer that you came to...seems like 5 pounds is reasonable and easy to deal with....so if my goal is 134, my highest acceptable weight would be 139...right? Then I would know that I need to really watch my intake and back her down a bit! Thanks for your input! C

That's what has worked best for me Cindy. I weigh daily so I always know where I stand. During the times when I have gained, having that 5lb guide has helped me to reign back in and refocus right away b/c I am so afraid that 2lbs will turn into 20lbs. It sounds like you're doing great! Hugs, Tracy B
