Hi everybody, I have been following the posts on here abou****ching carbs to get back on track, but I am slightly confused. For the last week I have been seriously watching what I have been eating. I am 2 years out, and recently had a gain of 7 lbs. So I'm going to take care of this problem NOW before I get out of hand. As Dr. Phil says, "You can't change what you don't acknowledge". So I am going to be honest with myself and everybody else and admit that I have been eating ALOT of crap. I acknowledged it, and am ready to change. I guess now that I am 2 yrs. out, I just haven't been focusing on that part of my life as much as I should have been. It's not something new to me anymore, so I guess I need a kick in the pants. Ok, my question for anybody watching their carbs, do you watch ALL carbs, or just the "bad" carbs ? I have bee tracking everything on fit day, But I think my carbs are still too high even though I haven't been eating ANY white carbs. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I have been bad carb free for a week now, and no weight loss yet. Of course it doesn't help that my "friend" is visiting this week either. My typical day is as follows.... B- 2 eggs, scrambled w/ 2 kraft singles S- 1 Protein Delight shake w/ 2 scoops protein L- 1 cup cottage cheese & 1 sm tomato S- 1/4 cup Planters Peanuts D- 1 Chicken Breast, baked w/ 1 string cheese, 1/4 cup pizza sauce, 1/2 serving pepperoni. Before bed- 1 protein delight shake 1 scoop protein. Total cals, 1,311 Fat, 53 gms carbs,53 gms Protein 159 gms Please let me know if I shold count these carbs, or just worry about white carbs. Thank you in advance. Denise Johnson 278/was 156,now 163/150 (goal)

Everyone will have their own opinion about this, so be prepared... Here's my take on it: There's carbs and then there's carbs, and not all are created equal... High fiber, whole grain carbs are not a bad thing, necessarily, and definately a better choice than "white carbs". My nut told me I need to be getting 100 carbs a day... Don't know why their protocol is so different than others, but hey, it works for me. I track on Fitday, too, and average about 100 carbs a day. Sometimes quite a bit more, sometimes quite a bit less. I work really hard, though, to maintain a 30-30-40 ratio of fat-carb-protein which is what my nut recommends. Over the past 6 months, I've averaged about 1200 calories, with 45 g of fat, 100g of carbs and 110 g of protein (just ran a Fitday report to check that). I've been maintain for quite a while now, but I'm at the low end of my surgeon's goal weight so I'm okay with that. Of course, some people keep their carbs VERY low, even lower than yours, and feel that works best from them. Some people are so insulin resistant that just LOOKING at a carb will make them gain. I guess I'm not much help, huh? Sorry... Just thought I'd throw in what works for me. Good luck! Becky 287/151

Hi Denise! I don't do super low carb, but I try to stick with good carbs. For me, I need some carbs in my diet for my body to work on. I work out at least 5x's per week and I find that eating good carbs gives my body the fuel it needs. Now, I love Wheat Thins~NOT GOOD CARBS!~Those are the things that I try to seriously limit! I know some can't eat any carbs at all or they will put on weight~I feel fortunate that I can eat some and still maintain my current weight. Everyone is different so you have to find what works best for your body. Good Luck! Tracy B 328/150 5'9"

I think we have to figure out what works for us. If the carbs make you want to eat constantly then they need to go. If you can eat some carbs with no ill effect keep them in your diet. Everybody metabolises food differently. Personally once I reached goal I added back some complex carbs but still don't eat the white carbs. There is nothing healthy in them so I'm wasting calories if I eat the white carbs. My daily carbs usually run 30-70 grms but they come from healthy foods like fruit. Well ok being honest here I seem to always have a fudgecicle which adds 18 grams just because I like them. Be patient with the weight loss. I often find even when I am watching what I eat that I don't lose anything for a couple of weeks, then I'll drop 2-3 lbs overnight. Once more you know your weight loss pattern better than anybody else. Best of luck in getting rid of the regain. It's a lot harder to lose it than to gain it back.

Denise, actually I think your nutritional count is pretty good. My goal is to keep my calories below 1200, fat around 40, carbs below 60 and protein at least 80, preferably 100 (it just works best for me). As Pat said, we all metabolize differently so it's a matter of finding out what works for you. Keep plugging away, change things up if it isn't working for you. Be patient, it may take time to lose the 7 lbs but you will, be dedicated and persistant. Best wishes, Dana
