I'm 5 years out from RNY. All plumbing is intact and still works fine. The problem is me, not the surgery. I've got into some terrible habits and have gained 50 lbs. I am so embarrassed that I don't even want to go back to the doctor. Has anyone else gained this much then lost it again? If so, how did you do it? These 50 lbs feel insurmountable.

Hi Karen, I'm sorry you are feeling disappointed right now. You can relose those lbs, go back to the Pouch Rules for Dummies, focus on protein first, then low glycemic vegetables, then fruit and if room a bite or two of other carbs. No drinking with food, and waiting an appropriate time after eating to drink (keeping food in your pouch longer). I participate in a couple of Yahoo support groups also that you may also find helpful during this time. If you are interested, send me an email and I can forward the link to you. Believe in yourself, it will take work to lose but it's possible. Best wishes, Dana

Hi Karen! I'm only 14 months out and have 3.4 pounds to my goal. I agree with Cajun girl, basics is where it's at! Take it one day at a time and strive for small goals. The 50 pounds won't seem so impossible that way. Don't be embarrassed. You've seen the light and now will tackle it and conquer again! Keep us posted on your progress! I know that always helps me. Hi Karen, Sorry to hear that you have gained the weight back. However it can be lost again. Just eat 6 really small meals a day and make sure that you are exercising as often as possible. Web site Calorie-Count.com can help you with calories that you are intaking and also helps to keep track of how much your burning. It's a great web site. My suggestion is to weigh everyday and make sure when you get back down to your goal you weigh everyday so you don't lose track again. I do that if I gain 2-3 lbs I start exercising more or I eat a little healthier and I get back to normal. I went from 256 to 145 (height 5'7) 18 months and I weigh every day and I eat every 2 hours religiously and I write down everything I eat still to this day. Keeps me on target. Just remember gaining 5 lbs can turn in to 10 and 10 in to 20 and so on and so forth so I will be praying for you but you know how to do it. Good luck! Wendy

Wendy is right on target. You CAN DO IT. Get back to basics. Try it for two days and see the results. Once you see some come off, the rest will follow. You will be motivated to go on. I too weigh myself every single day of my life for the past 3+ years, without fail. It may sound crazy, but I call it my "eat pie" method. If I am up a pound, I can't eat pie. If I am down, I can eat pie. The truth is I can't eat pie, but just saying that I can do it means I am at goal or below and it's a good thing. My husband asks me everyday, "can you eat pie today"? Wow! Karen... sounds like we are twins. I have gained about the same amount of weight. I might as well have gained all my weight back for the way I feel. I am dieting now and refuse to give up. I know we can do it, it will just take some effort. I have started getting exercise also. Like everyone says get back to basics but if you can't do that find a plan that you can stick with and make it work. Good luck.
