Does anyone else have this problem or offer me advice? I can't stand it anymore. I can eat next to nothing and gain 3 pounds overnight, then the next day or several days later get on the scale and the weight is down. It must be water retention because it is not enough calories to be real weight. Taking prescribed water pills do nothing. Cutting out all carbs sometimes helps. I've recently started using protein bars when I'm on the run, I guess I have to cut those out as well. I read all labels to be sure food is low sodium, and never salt anything, even thoughmy blood work always shows low sodium count. Out of desperation I'm going to eat nothing but boiled eggs and plain fish, maybe that will help me find my true weight. I AM BESIDES MYSELF, ANY SUGGESTION WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

Hi Linda, I am sorry you are having such a hard time. I can relate somewhat. I have been doing only good carbs this last week and the one day I ate a corn tortilla I gained 2 lbs. I think some of us just have those stupid fat genes that fight us tooth and nail. I hope things get better for you. Also like you I had to cut the bars out and boy do I miss them. I will be watching your post for the suggestions given, I could use them too. Good luck to you, Sharon

I don't know if it is water rentention or what but my body is very reactive to carbohydrates. I gained 7 lbs in 2 weeks by eating one Power Crunch bar a day. I replaced that with a protein shake and lost the 7 lbs in 5 days so it was definitely the PC bars. They do have wheat in them. I see big swings on the scale all the time. I spoke to my surgeon and he said some folks are just very sensitive to certain foods and types of foods. Kathy

Linda, I think what you/me/we need to remember is there will be flucuations in the scale based on time of day we weigh, what we eat, how our body is functioning (urinating and BM), etc. Don't let the scale rule you, undue stress won't make it better. As the others have said though, I do find too many protein bars will cause a jump in the scale for me too, cutting back and using other high-protein foods will definitely help. Keep your chin up, you've come along way.... Hugs, Dana

If I eat white flour, I can put on as much as 5 lbs in a day and I know it's no****er. I've got to where I eat pretty much the same thing, day in and day out, because I know it works for me. Maybe start out with a fairly limited menu, then start adding to it to see what the "problem food/ingredient" is? Becky

Becky...you can't put on five pounds in a day by eating white flour. You just can't. It takes 3500 calories to gain a pound of fat....five pounds is 17,500 calories over and above what your body uses. That would be eating about 39 cups of white flour. That would be 63 cinnamon rolls.....or 219 slices of white bread....or 89 donuts.......or 200 cupcakes...... It can sneak up on you....and if you are retaining a lot of water......and eating a lot too...then it might seem that you gain 5 pounds overnight. I can gain overnight too...but I hit the lemon water the next day to get rid of all the water gain....then I know where I am....its scary. Hugs from the beach Charlie

Tell that to my evil scales! LOL! For the most part I stay within the same 2 - 3 pounds all the time. Last week one of the fellows brought in doughnuts. Usually I'm not a sweet freak, but there's something about doughnuts that call my name. I ate 2 of the things! For the next three days my weight jumped 5 lbs. I had just finished my monthly, so if anything I should have been at the lower end of my weight. I also had this happen several months ago with a couple of slices of white mountain bread. Besides making me fill like crap, it blows me up. Becky

First thing to do is RELAX! This obviously isn't "real" weight gain, it's water retention caused by sensitivity to carbs, or whatever. Exercise can also affec****er retention - both upward and downward. Are you still dropping pounds in your overall weight trend? Are you losing inches? Remember, the scale is only one indicator of whether you are losing or not. Most people go thru cycles where they stop losing pounds but lose inches instead. As long as you are in a downward trend in either one, you are doing great. DON'T eat nothing but boiled eggs and fish. That can't be good for your nutritional needs. Not having the proper nutrients in your body will not help things. By the way, there is a great articles on the exercise and nutrition pages here about walking 2 continuous miles per day to help with weight loss. I've started doing it and it has improved my loss rate.....
