Exhausted lately
Dana,
I just went through a bad bout of this a couple of weeks ago. I swear, I was so tired I could almost fall asleep driving. It was awful. So I just KNEW my B-12 was low. I had just gone to see my surgeon, so I had a script for bloodwork in my purse. I made an appt with my local doctor to get my bloodwork done and to talk about how dang tired I was. She agreed that she thought it was my B-12 being low and gave me a shot.
Now, the LAST time i had my bloodwork done, my B-12, folate and Vit D came back low. So I've been very good about taking my vitamins and doing the sublingual B-12. The vit D, on the otherhand, the surgeon's office prescribed 50000 i.u. of Vit D per day over a 6 week period. The normal amount of Vit D per day is like 400 i.u. - I was too afraid of having toxic levels of Vit D in my system to do what they told me to do. (I did some research on it) So I took one a week for four weeks and quit taking it....then made sure I got a few minutes of sunlight each day and took my Calcium + D each day.
Long story short, I called the docs office to find out how my bloodwork came back this time. Everything is FINE except my Vit D, which is HIGH now! (Thank God I didn't take all of those pills!) Anyway, I asked specifically about my B12 - and it was normal. BUT I have felt so much better since I got the shot.
maybe coincidence??? Maybe just a phase.... I don't know. I just know I was run down like that for about three weeks before going to the doctor and I'm fine now (with the exception of getting over a stomach virus the last two days)
I would call the doc and tell him/her about how tired you are.... whatever the case, you need to have it looked into. I sure hope the feeling of being so tired passes for you soon. I know how miserable that is...it made me emotional too. (((Hug)))

I found that I was having days where I just wanted to stay in bed. I was depressed, agitated, I cried easily. I just wasn't myself. I also noticed that for the first time in my life, I had dark circles under my eyes. My blood work showed that my B-12 was extremly low. I started having shots every week for six weeks. I was checked again and was then put on shots once a month. Immediatly I again started feeling the way I had been feeling earlier. I called my Dr. and told him I didn't think that having the shots once a month was working for me. I again had tests done and sure enough, they were low again for B-12. I started giving myself the shots every other week. Since then, I have noticed a huge change. I'm not as tired as I was, my energy level is greater than ever and I just feel better . My blood work has been coming back very good and I am happy with these results. If you need to, you may have to have a repeat on your B12 test. I know that I have to have mine done just before a shot and then just after a shot when we're testing. My Dr. said that its just that some people have to have more than others, just like any other medication.
I have been on inti-depressants for over twenty years for depression. Thats how I knew it wasnt just depression. Many people get to go off of their anit-depressant once they have the surgery. Unfortunatley, I am not one of those people. My seratonin level is just too low for me to do that, even if I increase my excercise.
You may want to get your calcium and magnesium levels checked. I suffered for monthe felling tired and when I went to the nut he said I looked like I had the world on my shoulders and when my levels came back they were non existant for the mag. Have been on magnesium and malic acid (from apples) for a month now and feel wonderful
