Confused...(food choices)

To give a little history to my "problem", my family moved from Hawai'i to Oklahoma recently. We are military, and our move started in July. I lived in hotel settings for 26 days and then moved into our newly-purchased home. Unfortunately, our household goods did not get to our home for an additional 3 weeks, meaning no refrigerator, and that meant fast-food or restaurant choices almost daily. I had a good stash of almonds and beef jerky, but I couldn't rely on my cheese sticks and other refrigerated protein choices. I fell into what I thought was a much higher carb-laden meal plan. However, I stepped on my scale that arrived along with my fridge and I found that I had actually lost 6 more pounds! I had maintained that same weight for 5 months prior to my move and thought I was "done". I know that I was stressed during the move and I'm a huge stress eater. I fully expected a weight gain. Now, I come to my problem....the little carb DEVIL knows what I have had in the past 2 months and didn't gain, I'm so afraid that "it" will encourage me to continue on that path, there are times when only a carb "crunch" will satisfy my stupidity. Has anyone else run across a similar problem? Will going back to protein only for awhile take care of my cravings, or can I still have some "good" carbs to balance out my food day? I don't have access to my nut since I moved(closest base is over 100 miles away) and Tricare is a little slow with my PCM change request. I'm coming to my brothers-and-sisters-in-arms for advice. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Julie

I know that eliminating carbs kills the cravings for me. The healthiest way to eat is to have complex carbs if your body tolerates them well. There are some out there that are highly insulin sensitive and they have to watch carbs no matter the source. I haven't figured out if I am in the latter category or if I just have problems with white carbs or more specifically white flour or gluten. I'm playing human science project on myself to figure it out. As for the carb "crunch"... I find that celery sticks w/ pb, pepperoni crisps, soy chips and other things can fill the bill. Luckily I don't get the crunch craving often. Congrats on the surprised weight loss. I assume that it was okay to lose more. I know for some it is a delicate balance between trying to maintain, not lose any more but not wanting to gain either. Good luck, Kathy

Thanks for your reply It's definitely okay to lose more...I'm one of those "vertically-challenged" types(5'2") who are told that weighing in the 120's is good... I bypassed my own goal (135)with this surprise loss, but could still lose another 10# before the docs would become concerned. I'm going to buy some pepperoni, that sounds really good. Thanks again, Julie

We fry the pepperoni in a nonstick pan. Then drain on papertowels. They get real crispy and alot of the fat drips off. Yummy. We do a great "meat pizza" that uses ground beef (can use turkey easily) for the crust. We precrisp the pepperoni since I love it crispy on top. We use vegies and such on top. Hi Julie, You have come to the right place! If you look a few posts down you will see we are all dealing with the same thing~the dreaded carb devil! We have become accountable to each other at the end of the day and it seems to be helping all of us. It seems that most of us have cut out bad carbs like white flour, rice, potatoes. But we are eating good carbs. And I think we have all had some of the bad~but we plan for it and have it in moderation. You are doing a great job!!! We are so glad to have you onboard with us, look for the carb posting in the evenings and join in. And don't feel bad if you mess up, we post that too and receive encouragment from each other~no flamming here... Welcome! Huggs, Sharon

Sharon, Thanks for your reply, I'll have to start posting on that thread with everyone. It is a good way to be accountable. Julie
