Bored with Food

Hi Dana! I remember Tooter going thru this a few months ago too. I'm like you and tend to eat the same things daily so it does get boring sometimes. I've given up on breakfast and just have a NSA CIB every morning to at least get something into me. Then I follow up with cottage cheese a few hours later, usually after I work out. I haven't had any problems with eggs, but don't eat them very often b/c they just don't appeal to me. I did go thru a time when I was craving a 1 egg omelet w/ham and cheese, but that didn't last too long. Hope this food rut ends soon! Tracy B

Hi Dana. I try to vary my food choices. I don't do much of protein drinks or bars. I do like the AchievOne protein drinks and have them occasionally for breakfast. A good way to get in 20 grams of protein. Other ideas for breakfast: canadian bacon with egg beaters - add roasted onion and peppers. High protein cereal with 1/2 cup skim milk and fresh fruit. Low fat yogurt - fruited or plain and add the cereal to the yogurt - has nice crunchy taste. I like low fat cheddar cheese rice cake with low fat Lorraine cheese - Costco has this cheese and each slice is 9 grams of protein, I have two slices and add roasted red peppers on the top. Total with cheese and rice cake is 19 grams of protein. Lunch - cottage cheese, kidney beans, chicken strips, turkey meatballs, lean ham slices with a salad of some sort - greens or cucumber/tomato. Dinner - boca burgers, vegetarian chili, egg beater omelette, boca crumbles with a handful of kidney beans, roasted onions, 1 tsp of mild taco seasoning, salsa.. roast on stove top and add 1 slice of FF cheddar cheese on top - just melted.. This is yummy and full of protein. It's very filling. Tuna salad or tuna steaks with warm vegetables. Snack - once in a while - gala apple, peanut butter, raisins... I try not to snack but sometimes it's so hard.. Well Dana that's what I've been eating. Hugs, Lucy

((((((((((Dana)))))))))) If you find a miracle 'cure' will ya let me in on it? This low-carb thing is really starting to wear me down at 30 months post-op. Ack! Can't eat eggs...sit like lead for hours, then end up coming back up. Bacon's too greasy, no matter how much I squi**** with paper towels, etc. I'm terrible...I usually do not even eat my first meal until about 2-3 PM...can't 'stomach' anything sooner than that. (((Hugs))) ~~Sherry P.S. Did you ever try the sun-dried tomato seasoned deli turkey from Hy-Vee/Wal-Mart?

Hi Sherry, our Walmart doesn't have the sun-dried tomato deli turkey, I've looked a couple of times with no luck. I went to the store this morning and bought some deli meats (roast beef & turkey) will try it again and see if I like it. It doesn't make me sick, my problem is taste, just didn't care for it on my previous attempts. I hear you, I'm frustrated and tired of making good choices, you would think a routine would be established at 18 months out where it wasn't so mundane and stressful to make good choices. Variety is key I'm sure ~~ with hubby gone 7/7 though it's just no fun cooking for myself. I'm use to cooking large quantities, you cannot imagine how much food we throw away, I feel guity allot about this. One of my neighbors has been real happy though, he gets a free lunch 3-4 days out of the week. I'm thinking about your struggles lately, I too feel overwhelmed and frustrated with it all. Hugs, Dana

Just found this thread -- and I've not had much success with eggs, either. I eat very few, and mostly only disguised in salad, etc. Definitely never scrambled, fried, poached, very rarely hard boiled. Egg salad works if I eat it along with some kind of bread or crackers. Red meat just doesn't work for me, either, like steak, hamburger, roast, etc. I can do pork chop filet and have one for breakfast occasionally. I tend to eat regular, non-breakfast foods at all times of the day. I do eat deli sliced turkey, ham, and chicken (have you tried Boar's Head brand???) I get whole roasted hot chickens and come home and de-bone them. I don't cook much just for me. Mozarella cheese sticks and Ritz crackers and yogurt are my big breakfast items. I do have Lean Pocket breakfast things in the freezer just in case I'm brain dead in the morning.....don't like all the carbs, but at least I don't get hypoglycemic by 10:00. Golly, oatmeal sits like a brick with me, very hard to digest. I'm bored, too, but I can totally rejoice with all of us in our success..... It seems that the thinking process is wearing me out, too. I've checked with my non-WLS friends, and they don't struggle with the nutirition issues that we do, with having to be concerned about vitamin, protein, and carb intake following major abdominal/ intestinal surgery. They think about things like this because it's the "health fad" of this century, but their future doesn't literally depend on what they (do) eat. I admit that I ate fairly balanced before surgery (really, don't rag on me). But, now, my very life depends on eating, so, I guess the perspective has changed.....guess I'd rather struggle with being bored than being dead! We have come so far, haven't we? My life is totally different now, and I'm so grateful. Hope you continue to do so well.

Hello Beautiful.. I've missed you the pass couple of months at group....I know what you mean...I find I just quit eating...sometimes I just throw caution to the wind and get a double cheese burger from Mcd's for 99¢...and I eat about 1/2 I think in order to make it intresting you have to break the rules a little...bad bad me...regular ranch in my salad..real mayo...stuff like that...maybe it the excitement of breaking the rules... I know i'm not much help...how are Blain and the boyz.? Russ

Hey Russ, man I miss seeing yall at group. Seems like every time it comes up there is something else in life that makes it impossible to attend. Now it's fall baseball season coming up, about 2 months of games 3 days a week and practice 2. Not sure how I'll manage when Blane's working but I'll do my best. I do break the rules, well somewhat sometimes, just most of that stuff does not interest me at all. If I never step foot in McD's again I won't hurt my feelings. I lived on Quarter Pounder and FF's pre-op, I've tried a couple of FF, OMG they taste aweful. For me, it's probably a good thing though as I'm sure that demon would bite me in the arse if not. I never expected eating to be so mundane and such a chore. I know I could go days without eating sometimes, I'm just not hungry lately and feeling pretty exhausted. Guess it's time for more labs even though I had them drawn in June. Kinda wondering if my iron hasn't tanked . Blane and the boys are doing great, trying to keep me in line , which isn't always easy. I never realize how hard-headed I was before. I'm looking at my calendar, looks like Blane will be home for our Sept. meeting, I'm going to give it my best shot to be there. Take care of yourself, ok? How's mom doing? What about Kelley? Any further on the progress to get the lapband? Hugs, Dana
