Bored with Food

Hi guys and gals, lately I have been in such a rut with food choices. It's been a chore deciding what to eat because nothing sounds good. I was ill last week (virual infection caught from my boys) and since then nothing taste good nor sounds good. I'm even experiencing lots of nausea like I did early post-op. I'm sure I'm still recovering from the illness but need ideas on food. I tend to eat the same thing everyday. I'll take any ideas and try them, I feel desperate for change . Also, eggs.....I still can't eat them, is it just me or do some of you still have problems with eggs? It's really the only food that I can't eat. I've tried them scrambled, boiled, fried (well with Pam). My breakfast is almost always cottage cheese, occassionally I'll eat bacon and that's it. I rather skip breakfast (I know bad) then try to find something. I can't eat oatmeal in the morning or I end up with a hypoglycemic episode. Ideas please. Sorry for the rambling. Dana

I eat tuna salad, chicken salad, or deli meat and cheese for breakfast quite often. I do okay with eggs. Have your tried quiche? Wonder if that would sit well? Please don't skip breakfast! Eat something, okay? Hugs, Kathy

Hi Kathy, haven't thought about eating chicken or tuna for breakfast, might have to try that. I do eat cheese, actually to much I'm sure. Not real crazy about deli meat either since surgery, bought some last week and it's still sitting in the frig, might give that a try again. My taste have changed so much, it's unbelievable to me how each month I find my taste change again. I know better than to skip breakfast, if I just don't feel I can handle it, I'll do a shake at a minimum but I've been bored with those lately too. Why does eating have to be such a chore? Hugs, Dana

Hi Dana, ~Ginny here. I'm with you very bored with food and I think its mostly because I have to think to hard everyday about what I eat next. Never enjoyed thinking about food & I skip breakfast many days. As for eggs; I can only eat poached eggs on a slice of whole grain bread toasted or a whole wheat mini bagel toasted. Scrambled eggs feel like they are stuck in my chest so finally gave up trying those. Would you believe I purposely sleep late so I can avoid breakfast but I know you can't do that with your little ones. Lately I am dumping on coffee and I am not sure if its the Splenda or cream so I skipped it completely today and did the poached. Good to see you post. I been lurking over the past weeks since I changed my username.

Hey lady, just checked your profile, congrats on the TT and the upcoming BL/BR. Sounds like you are doing wonderful, I hope you continue to feel well. Yea I don't like thinking about food either, lol, just doesn't seem worth it to eat so little but have to think so hard on what I want. Oh well, it's definitely better than weighing 260 lbs for sure. Glad to see you posting! Hugs, Dana

I have been reading Stephie's post regarding carbs hoping to find out what others are eating that would give me some new ideas but so far nothing exciting but I am glad she started that thread, keeps me in check just to read and remember how sad I was when I was carrying nearly 100 extra lbs. and how far we have all come. My br/bl is scheduled for 9-22...next I will be working on my thighs. Not so sure insurance will cover that but then I didn't expect all this either so it doesn't hurt to try. By the time I am done dealing with the vanity of my body, my face will probably need to be lifted...geez never thought I would see these days not did I think I would ever see 57 but I did this week. Dana, if you come across some exciting foods less the carbs please share. Some days I feel desperate. I even started buying shrimp, jumbo lump crab meat and Maine lobster which are hard to get here, high in protein but I managed to find some only to have the same feeling I get with eggs and it was 4 weeks before I realized the shellfish was doing it so that is now off my list regretfully. I was thinking sushi but I can't eat rise so not sure where to venture next.

Hey Dana - hope you got my email! I am not sure if many people come to the grad board from the Tx Board so if you get some good ideas can you pass them on. I know several people have asked me what I eat and when I say it I can't beleive what boring food I am eating! I went back to "Whats on the Menu" for the last month and I have had a banana and granola bar every day - that is wrong!!! I am hoping that some interesting/exciting food ideas/choices come though with this posting because my food choices are putting me to sleep! BORING!!!!! Thanks! Valerie

OK - this might be a BAD suggestion, but I've been having (on occasion - maybe once a week) a croissant w/melted swiss and its SO good. Breakfast is tough for me too. I need protein in the morning to avoid getting shaky also! On the eggs, I still don't order them out, because when they let the eggs "set" on the grill, that crisp stuff makes me sick. So I make them at home and I'm OK. BUT, I cannot use pam anymore - maybe try an oil mister and use some olive oil or even a little butter in the pan. The pam just gets me every time. I've been having salad for lunch lately, which is fine because I'm loving this new dressing, but its boring too. I understand where you're coming from and wish I had better suggestions.

Hey Dana, I see your from Houston, I live south of Houston, who knows we may not live far from each other? Okay, I LOVE to cook! It is a true passion for me, if I could be a personal chef I would. Tell us what you like (what kinds of meats, veggies, fruits) and I will post some recipes that you might like. I am with you as far as taste changing, I was just telling my surgeon that I can't believe the things that I eat that I NEVER would have put in my mouth before, wonder why? Glad your feeling better and hope you have a wonderful weekend! Huggs, Sharon

Hi Sharon, I'm from NE Houston area. You need to visit the Texas board sometimes, we have get togethers occassionally (dinner and dancing), it's lots of fun, would love to have you join us. I'm really not a "picky" eater. My biggest thing is time an ease, my boys (6 1/2 & 5) are very picky and hubby works out of town 1/2 the month so I hate cooking foods that take allot of time and also I can't cook small portions so I throw lots of food away. I love all vegetables and my favorite meats are chicken and beef. I also love shrimp and crab, not much on fish, of course, I think it's because I don't know how to cook it good. If I go to a seafood restaurant I'll eat fish, I just make it to dry (overcook). I also love fruit, just about any kind. See that's what is so weird for me, I do like allot of stuff (cheese is my favorite ), but finding foods quick and easy are important. I can't really do eggs (unless very finely chopped in tuna or chicken salad), I don't care for deli meats (although I will eat them), I love liver (I know I'm crazy, lol), brussel sprouts I crave all the time. Sorry I'm rambling, any suggestions for quick easy and healthy, small portions and I'm game. Thanks Sharon! Dana PS It's about time to go home from work, I didn't proofread, hope I didn't studder or really butcher the post.
