Dumped & Hypoglycemic on same day!
Boy, what a day I had on Sunday. Still not sure what triggered it but about 4 in the afternoon I started feeling weak, shakey, sweaty. Checked my sugar and it was 63. Ate a pear and got it up. Then after supper, I dumped. Not sure on what. Could have been sugar alcohol. But now I really know the difference in how I feel! GRRRR!
I'm having more problems now than I did early out! It's frustrating. Saw my PCP today and he's decided that I'm not just insulin resistant, but diabetic. I shutter to think how bad of shape I'd be in if I hadn't had the WLS and lost 116 pounds. He said I would probably be insulin dependent already. Scary thought. I had an appointment with the dietician and she was so full of it! Supposedly she has experience with WLS patients. I don't think so. She said I was supposed to weight 120. I weight 148. If I lost another 28 pounds, I would be skelatal. I should eat 1600 calories a day with 180 gms of complex carbs. I just looked at her and laughed! That would be like eating 54 triscuit or 6 bowls of Wheaties! I don't know about anyone else, but I can barely eat 4 triscuit without feeling full. And just when am I supposed to get my protein in??? She did back down a bit when I told her first, I am physically unable to eat that much, and second, I will gain wt on 1600 cal a day.
I'm ignoring her advice. I told my PCP that and he agreed. I'm seeing my WLS doc next week to see if he can point me in the right direction.

My PCP has a lot of wls patients due to the fact that he strongly encourages his obese patients to have the surgery. Due to the large number of wls patients in his practice he is very familar with this problem.
I was on 3 pills a day for diabetes before surgery, but came off of them on the day of surgery. When I started having the low blood sugar episodes around 18 months post-op he told me to start eating 6 small meals a day, but to be very careful with the simple carbs. He explained they would cause a sudden increases in blood sugar followed a couple of hours later by a low blood sugar reading. I haven't had any low blood sugar episodes since I started the 6 small meals a day.
I can relate to your reaction to the 1600 calories a day. I have to stay around 1,000 a day to maintain. Losing seems to be impossible now days no matter how much I exercise, etc.

Sorry to hear that you're going through this...sounds like me. Not really all that funny though, is it?
Next time your blood sugar is low, eat a carb WITH a protein. What works best for me is 1/2 an apple with a tbsp. of peanut butter. A carb alone will alone send me into another spike/crash. The protein will help to level it off once it has been raised.
Get thee to an endo, Hon! Even make the trip to Waterloo to see Dr. Reddy if you have to (she's WORTH the drive!)...
