one year out and wondering
Rebecca....you need protein. How much are you getting....
You can develop protein malnutrition if you don't get enough....it takes a long time but it's devastating....my cousin is now disabled because he didn't get enough...
Also, if you don't get enough protein, you lose muscle mass as well as fat....and the heart is a muscle....think about that. Its the reason some anorexic girls die even after they are cured and gain weight....the heart is too small to keep up. Weight bearing exercising like weight lifting will help build muscle...but you also need protein for that.
So please make sure you are doing all you can to eat protein first, or supplement if you have to...its very important to your long term health.
I don't mean to scare you....you aren't going to drop dead if you aren't getting enough right now....but now is a good time to start upping it if you need to.
Hugs
Charlie
How many grms of protein a day are you getting? Do you know how many your body requires? at 110 pounds you are 55 Kilos. the recomended amount of protein for health is 1 gram / kilo / day which is 55 grams of protein for you per day.
you can easily get that amount of protein from 6 oz of meat , fish, chicken divided into 2-3 meals a day. if you add 3 servings of dairy and eat some high protein cereal you can easliy hit 100 grams a day. I know this because I do. Entirely from my diet, with no supplements.
Not getting enough protein is not good for your health, but unless you are a vegan or having a serious eating disorder such as anorexia you should not have a problem getting adequate nutrition.
Please focus on your health, it is the only thing that matters in the long run.

My PCP found my prealbumin level to be low at about six months. This basically means I was malnourished. He increased my protein level to 80 grams a day and the bloodwork has been find since then.
Now that I'm absorbing better I've dropped back down to 60 grams of protein (food only-no shakes) and the levels are staying up.
Protein is vital to our well being. We could lose heart muscle if we don't get enough protein. Not to mention the hair loss.
You don't have to eat meat to get in protein, you can consume it from milk, beans, peas, tofu, etc. I like meat so I'm not real familar with other sources of protein.
Best of luck!
