1 year p-op, has anyone experienced dizziness????????
I have lost 130 lbs was 357 now 225. I want to be under 200 so bad but my wieght has stayed the same for the past 4 weeks any suggestions? I have had a problem within the last 3 months, everytime I am sitting and I get up I get dizzy and my vision fades away until I see stars or black. It doesn't last very long I just have to stand still for a couple of seconds till it goes away. I drink enough water, protein, and vitamins. I have had my blood work done and the Dr. says everything is good, but I still continue to have this problem. Has anyone experienced this?
I had your exact experience at around the same time after my weight loss. The two culprits suspected were dehydration and/or low blood pressure. I am pretty religious about drinking my water, but don't doubt that could have been it. My blood pressure was running low, and continues to be on the low end. I got the test where you get a reading laying down, then sitting up, then standing up. There is a name for the condition of getting light headed and dizzy upon getting up. Doctors get excited about high blood pressure. Not so much low blood pressure.
I was bothered for several weeks by this. I got used to hanging on to something after getting up until it passed. It is hard to not worry when your body has been through so much in such a short time. My doctor kind of attributed it to that. My labs too were really normal and everything checked out good. In the end it just passed and gradually stopped happening. I kind of figure that I lost 150 plus pounds in a year and my body was probably just a bit shocked in ways my doctor couldn't put her finger on. It seemed to work itself out on it's own. There is a medicine for low blood pressure, but I didn't want to take it. I recently had a couple of weeks where it happened again (I'm about 2 1/2 years out). The weather was in the 100s and I wasn't drinking extra water. I went to the drug store and my blood pressure was fairly low. Again, both are the most common culprits. I don't know....but it did go away on its own. Hope yours does too!

While this may not be the case with you, there is an issue called Postural Hypotension that is relatively common among those who are experiencing rapid and significant weight loss. See the response in the URL I've provided from Dx (first from the bottom) for an explanation of this...

I have experienced this issue myself - it seemed to be at its worst between the 12-14 month points. On two occasions I actually dropped like a rock hitting the floor...luckily each time there was nothing to hit the noggin on. Both times this happened was within an hour or two of a very strenuous workout. While this is still happening, it does seem to be improving - however I'm much more careful than I used to be and get up more slowly.
Hope this helps!

My surgery was 07-2005, it's now been 1 year 2 months. Last week I experienced a problem I was having real bad stomach pain almost like cramps but it was around the belly button area and I felt really hot which of course wasn't normal for me since I'm always cold, at first I thought it was gas or constipation but after having a normal bowel movement that night I finally decided to call my doctor and he told me to go to the ER since he thought it sounded like I had a Hernia from the symptoms I had described to him. Well after a CatScan and an Ultrasound which all came out normal, my surgeon who did my gastric bypass told me he thought it was a Hernia also and he would have to do explaratory laproscopic procedure and if everything was ok then he would just close up. Well things weren't ok I did have a hernia and had to have surgery to repair it. My surgeon told me had I gone to any other hospital they might not have diagnosed my condition properly since all labs were normal so they would have sent me home which could have been much worse had I done so. It's now been 1 week since my surgery I was at 227lbs and stuck on that for 4weeks but now in just one week I am at 215lbs I've lost 12 lbs finally I guess that's what the problem was and why I wasn't loosing any more weight.
