had RNY and gallbladder.......feeling like a mack truck hit me. following all the doctors orders.....will this feeling of fatigue soon pass??
What you are feeling is normal. Not to be rude, but this is the WLS Grads board - for people who are over 1 year out. You will get a better response from the main message board as there are a lot of people who are going thru what you are right now.
As for the fatigue, you had MAJOR surgery 4 days ago. Do you think you should be able to run a marathon already??? Your body has gone thru and will be going thru spectacular changes. Yes, you will be fatigued. Everyone recovers at their own rate. Just do what your doctor has told you to do and call him with any questions. That's why you pay him. And no, the fatigue probably won't pass soon. You will be losing a tremendous amount of wt and that's hard on your body. Your nutrition won't be very good for a while, even following your doc's program. Just be sure to get all your fluids in and your vitamins. The protein will come but it takes time. I'm 27 months out and still have problems getting all my protein in some days. But yes, it does get easier, and yes, you will feel better eventually. Maybe you'll be one of the lucky ones and lose the fatigue quickly.
Good luck!

i came to the grad board because i wanted to hear from someone who had been there done that. i felt really bad at the time i wrote earlier...........but your answer was satisfactory. thanks. i just though all boards were open to anyone who wanted to visit.
Boards are open to everyone its just the GRAD board people tend to have different problems then what you are experiencing. They focus on those problems vs just coming out of surgery. Not that isn't important its just not discussed here. Glad to hear you are feeling better. Trust me....the Grads on this board surf the main board as well. Sometimes its easier to get an answer from someone fresh from surgery vs someone who has been out of surgery three years ago. Good luck with your journey.

I still remember the early days, and I certainly don't mind helping someone just out from surgery. What you are feeling is certainly normal. Number one, you have had a very serious operation and that alone takes a toll. Number two, think about how many calories all of us used to consume prior to this surgery. Now, you are consuming in these early days hardly any calories. Your body is used to lots of food for fuel now it hardly has any. That will make you very tired. And I want to mention too that you may later as you start to move a little more feel dizzy or light headed when you go from sitting to standing and that could be you need to up your fluids some. And remember dehydration can make you tired too. So, really if you can't or don't feel like doing anything else get those liquids in. And finally, hang in there sweety. Those early days are so tough. But as time goes by, you will feel better and better. I seem to remember starting to get some energy back maybe 6 weeks or so after my surgery. And it has been on from there LOL. Now, my family has a hard time keeping up with me. You will get there too.
Good luck to you on your journey. The main board is a great place for newbies to get lots of info, but sometimes they are as new as you and don't have the ideas or answers or experiences to draw on. So, feel welcome to come here anytime. And, don't hesitate to call your doctor with any concerns either. That is what he and his staff are there for.

Hey Melissa ... looking good! Oh, I have no problem helping people out right after (and before, and everything in-between), that's why I haven't abandoned the main messageboard (nor have many other grads) ... but this is where we discuss and get the support *we* need at this stage in our journey, and I would hate to lose that.

WELCOME!
I am not an elitist on this or any board. You have a legit question and I am happy to answer anythime. You can even email me privately if you wish to.
I was so tired after my rny too. It took me 8 weeks to feel mostly like a human again. the surgery is a major stress on your bady as is any surgery. this one has so many emotional issues as well as the physical one. I feel like I have been on a 4 year oller coaster ride.
For now, know what you are feeling is normal and expected. even tho it is almost 6 years i still remember ow truely hard it was.
HUGS, hope you are feeling better soon.
