My 4 year anniversary is this weekend. I lost a total of 145 lbs. I have gained 15 lbs back but have maintained my current weight for 1 1/2 years now. Everything has been good but I started feeling tired about 6 months ago but figured it was a combination of moving and a new job. I went for my yearly labs 2 weeks ago and found that I am severely anemic and B-12 very low. I also have abnormal shaped red blood cells. I have had 2 B-12 shots and increased my B complex vitamins and will have lab redrawn in 10 days. My energy remains low even with the shots. Has anyone experienced this? I would still have this surgery and happy with myself. I am getting married in 65 days so Life is Good! Kim

Kim, Congrats on your upcoming surgiversary!!! Sounds like you've been busy moving, new job, wedding planning... hang in there. I've not had problems with my blood work so I can't offer any advice there, but I sure hope it all balances out for you soon. Tracy A.

Kim...congratulations on your 4 years!! That is awesome! I recently passed my 4 year mark myself and have experieced anemia. What my doc friend did for me was put me on Proferrin ES 12mg twice a day along with the B-12 and within a couple of weeks my iron jumped like 9 points and I was starting to feel pretty good. I still after a year and a half have a problem with my iron being on the low of normal, but not anything like it was. He explained to me that Proferrin is a different kind of iron supplement which absorbs in a completely different area of the body unlike peopel who have not had a bypass. He said when we are bypasse the proximal jujuenum is bypassed where normally we would absorb the iron. Makes sense because it has worked for me. I understand it does not work for all as I so loudly heard it from a few here, but that is okay...I am just sharing my experience with you. Give it a try and tell your pcp. I have only been able to get it via the pharmacy and not off the shelf. If your doctor writes a RX for it the pharmacy will order....some insurances pay for it....mine pays for part of it. Hope this helps you and once again...congrats on your success!!!! Happy Wedding day too!
