Goal Weight?
Ok.. another question.. has EVERYONE made their goal or close to it? I never hit my goal, I am about 30 heavier than I'd like to be.. I'm 5'10, large framed and still weigh usually about 215. I go between 215 and 220. I still wear a size 18, so I still have to shop in the fat girls stores/sections. My surgery was 3 years ago.. This is just kinda where I stopped and stayed.
Stephanie, you and I are the same height! Anyway, I never did really set a goal for myself. Anything was better than 317 pounds.
I have ended anywhere between 180 and 185. I wear mostly a size 14, sometimes 16 and sometimes a 12, just depends on who makes it. My doc never gave me a goal so I never really set one for myself. I'm still considered overweight according to my BMI, but I'm happy where I am at.

I'm about 15 months out and still have not made goal. Like you, I'm 30 pounds over goal - 33 to be exact. I'm 5'2" with a "small frame" and would like to get to 135, but I can't get out of the mid-to-high 160's. I am thinking about chucking it all in and joining Weigh****chers to try and get off the last of my weight. I've been on a horrific platuea for almost 4 months and I eat right (most of the time) and exercise like a mad woman six days per week. It's frustrating to see weight falling off of others and seeing them get to goal when they admit that they are not nearly as diligent with exercise.
I'm grateful for the 135 pounds I have lost, so please don't misunderstand, but I am still clinically obese and I need to get off at least 20 more pounds to be in a relatively healthy weight range.
I hit my goal of 148 in less than a year ..stayed there maybe 3 weeks
and over the next 2 years gained 30 . putting me at 178 .. went from size 22 to size 8 back up to a 14. My surgery was over 3 years ago .. Now I am working to loose the 30 or at least 20 .. I fight with my mind .. ine side says relax .. 14 is better than 22 after all youre 51 not ..14 is ok ..and the other side says yeah yeah 14 today and 16 tomorrow ..get back to 148 . Does any one else this far out struggle with this ?? Ruthie

Hey Ruthie and everyone
I think from things I read alot struggle with regain . I have wondered if weigh****chers will work for us as they eat lots of carbs.
I am confused .. Since protein is pushed can we go to anything we want as long as we eat only a certain amount of calories per day or do we have to strickly do protein and veggies .
I was thinking of doing a 1200-1500 cal diet of some kind but dont know which one.
My Dr's office is of no help. THey preach 3 meals , no snacks and protein and veggie only ...
I never knew it would be so hard after ....I am greatful to GOD that it doesnt take near as much to fill me though now ..
Anyone have any ideas if weigh****chers would work .. IT did years ago but that was before the surgery..
Hugs

Before surgery was considered, I went to Suzanne Somers program. It is good food, wonderful proteins and interesting theory about carbs. The sanest one I have found so far. Her recipies are wonderful and if portioned out, would be a wonderful plan to be on. I lost 35 lbs, and then went off for the carb and gained it back. But the program is sensible and as I said, she does wonderful things with food prep.
Good luck!

My original goal weight was 150 lbs (don't know why, except that I weighed that 25 years ago, was a size 12/14). My surgeon's goal is 170-190 lbs. I would be happy with anything less than what I've been since last fall. I hit -100 lbs and everything just stopped. I didn't change my diet, my body just quit. I'm currently 205-210 lbs (well, I did dip to 202 for a couple of hours one day...). I wear size 18 mostly, 16 sometimes. I think I'd probably be a size 14 if all the flapping skin wasn't there, but getting that removed isn't a financial option for me right now.
I've been very frustrated in getting the scale to move lower. I was consuming 1200-1500 calories on the advice of my doctor and nutritionist. Last month, I changed that to 1000 calories with the guidance of my nutritionist. I consume 100 g protein daily (although I'm told that is way too much). When I go below that, all I want to do is eat carbohydrates. I try to keep my net carbs in the 30-40 grams range each day, and try to be very selective in what carbs I do eat. The scale still hasn't moved.
I've been working with a physical therapist to increase the intensity of my workouts without killing my arthritic joints. I combine aerobic activity with strength training. I try to work out Monday thru Friday, don't always make it. I do feel stronger, and have better endurance, but I don't see me losing weight or getting thinner. I find it very hard to continue to talk myself into doing all this stuff when I don't see much benefit. Even though I am stronger, the "joint friendly" exercises still make all my joints really sore. I hate every moment I work out, have difficulty not being bored out of my mind while I do it (and yes, I do vary what I do and where I do it), and could think of a million things I'd rather be doing than expending that time each day exercising. The physical therapist did tell me that it could take 6 months of increased intensity before I notice much of a metabolic change, so I continue to talk myself into it.
sorry about the whine,

I am going to toot in here... My surgeon set my goal weight at 160. According to my primary that is still morbidly obese for me.....OH WELL.........
Recently I went in for a weigh in at 138 and considered grossly overweight still. My PCP just doesn't get it.
From 386 to now 132 I think it is great, I am short but very large framed still. Even if it were 160, or 180! Just keep things in perspective! From where you were, to where you are now. You have come so far!!!!!!!! GREAT JOB FOR YOU!
I could be totally ticked off at my PCP but I just shrugg it off in disgust and laughter too and know that she has never been here before....and your surgeon hasn't either. So do not get "stuck" on that goal weight! Give yourself kuddos for what you have done!!!
Highjack here .. Debbie , I remember you so well .. before my surgery a little over 3 years ago .. I used to look at your picture and prfile 100 time a week .. Your success inspired me so much ,, you look wonderful and you dont need to lose another lb .. seeing your post and looking at your profile again was like seeing an old lost friend .. I am so glad to see you are keeping your weight off .. you look wonderful hugs , Ruthie
