Anyone change from lapband to bypass?
I had lapband surgery 2/6/04. I lost 130 lbs in first year and band slipped. Had to have repair surgery 5/6/05. Have gained 45 lbs this past year as have never been able to tolerate fluid in my band. Doctors advising I should probably switch to bypass as it's most likely my band won't work. Anyone switched? Comments, help? It's scary to think about switching, but don't want to gain all my weight back and want to get back to where I was at first slippage. Would love to hear from someone who has changed and hear your thoughts on it.
I did not have a lap band I had an RNY, but one of the reasons is what you have posted as your experience. With the high number of people who have to have revisions from the band to a bypass. I decided why do it in steps, just get the bypass.
I know some people have good luck with the band and I am happy for them. the stats just didn't meet my needs.
Sure, I was scared to cut my stomach in half and re route my intestines, but I only wanted to do it once and have the best possiblity for success - especially over the long term. I wanted permanence, not something that might have to be replaced, continually adjusted, or even maybe break.
actually all things considerd a DS would be a great choice as well. but I didn't have a really clear understanding of the procedure at the time I had my surgery. I was probaly too light to have it anyways.
You have worked hard and deserve to have your heath. Good luck!
