I AM NOT SURE WHAT TO DO
I have been to my initial appt with my surgeon I am now waiting to see if my insurance will approve (american life care) in the mean time he told me I needed to lose 40 lbs before the surgery he put me on a high protein diet where I can only eat 20grams of carbs a day to stay in ketosis to lose weight quick I am going crazy without my carbs and I can't wait to here something from my insurance what did yall do while waiting can anything speed up the progress
I had to do a 6 month diet for my insurance company. I did Dr. Atkins induction diet, which is lots of protein, didn't count fats and limited my 20 carbs to 20 grams per day, as your doctor instructed. I drank 2 protein drinks per day and then consumed one meal per day of protein and a green vegetable or salad with low carb dressing. It wasn't too different from how I ate after surgery, except the quantities were much larger. I lost 37 lbs prior to surgery.
It takes a few days to get through the carbohydrate withdrawal. I know how difficult it is, as I've let carbohydrates sneak back into my life and I'm trying to get rid of them again. One advantage that you have pre-op is that you don't have the physical limitation that is present after surgery. You can sate your appetite by consuming a huge steak or a huge cheese omlet, something that may be higher in fat to satisfy you while you withdraw from the carbs.
After surgery you will have to follow a very strict diet. This is good practice for you. It also demonstrates that you have the ability to stick to a regimen. For the rest of your life you'll have to pay close attention to what you consume, taking care to consume enough protein and get in adequate nutrition.
Stick to it and once the ketosis kicks in, your cravings will be gone. You can purchase ketostix at your local pharmacy to check your urine. Once you're in ketosis, seeing those test strips turn pink or purple is extra motivating.

I went on Dr. Atkins for 4 months before surgery and lost 58 lbs. Not doctor ordered, but he did suggest if I could lose some weight that the chances of doing the surgery lap were better. That was incentive enough for me. Surgery was done lap and I got a bonus because he took the diseased gallbladder out at the same time.
I'm 29 months out and every time I add carbs back to my diet the scale plunges upward. I'm still doing Dr. Atkins to maintain my weight. Others are fortunate in that they can eat the carbs while losing and after they reach goal. Every person has a different wls journey.
I find it easier to control my food intake without the carbs. When I eat carbs I am constantly hungry.
Best of luck with your food program.
