Depressed about the whole mess
I had open R-N-Y on 10/19/04. The day prior to surgery, I weighed 363.5lbs. I have lost down to as low as 201lbs (just can seem to break 200). Last night, I weighed 227lbs. I've been bouncing between 201-230 for about 2 months.
When I first had surgery, I was an exercise fanatic. In fact, I began going to the gym at 3 weeks postop. I will admit that I never did eat very well. It wasn't that I ate much, just lots of high protein foods make me yack. And I never, ever got the water in.
Last June, I had to have a disc taken from my neck and that slowed down my exercising. After that, life took a downward spiral. I had been having problems with headaches and visual blurring from early 2004 but was okayed to have the GBS as my neurologist blew everything off as nothing important. Continued problems led me to get a second opinion. This neurologist diagnosed me with multiple sclerosis. The day after Thanksgiving last year, I lost vision in my right eye. This has caused me to not be able to work as I cannot read nothing for more than a few minutes without having a severe headache coupled with nausea and vomiting. I am anurse and there aren't many jobs which does not require reading. I also suffer from dizziness and mobility limnitations at times which cause me to fall.
Dealing with a chronic disease left me angry and depressed until July of this year, and now I am just befuzzled how to get back on track. 21 months out, I can eat anything I want without dumping, just not in large quantities. Now who of us wouldn't touch chocolate if we could without getting sick?
As far as exercise goes, I'm trying to get in a local yoga class, as they sday it is good for people with MS, but the local place is shut down while they find a new building.
Guess I just wanted to vent more than anything. Anyone else out there lose their way?

I think maybe you should call you wl surgeon and ask them for help. Mine is wonderful and they're always willing to talk to those of us who have strayed. Do you have group therapy in your area? We have it twice a month here and even more severe therapy for those that have gotten off track. Just few ideas.
Good luck,
Terry Coles
