Hi all, Its been a while since I Posted and I wanted to say Hi and also ask some advice. I had my open rny in Nov. of 2001, I lost from 303 to 145 and then gained back up to 175 and for the last 3 yrs I have maintained at the 175 range with no problems at all. I pretty much eat what I want and I am doing great. Now the question is, I have not changed my routine in the last 4yrs but now I find myself getting real hungry after 2 in the afternoon and this feeling stays with me all evening until I give up and go to bed. But when I wake up in the morning I am really not hungry until about 2 again in the afternoon. I eat a light breakfast everyday and lunch. I try not to snack because I find I do better if I do not subject myself to the snacks. I just can not shake this strong hunger feeling after 2, and i am talking it is almost to the point it changes my mood for the rest of the day. Maybe it is all in my head (dah) any advice will be taken in to consideration. Love all you guys, and keep on the track. Bruce

Hi Bruce! I'm kind of the same way~not really hungry at all in the morning, but I make myself eat something. By lunch time I'm a bit hungry. In the afternoon and evening is definitely my hungry time. What I try to do is focus on protein at the time~even if I grab a bowl of cottage cheese or some chunks of chicken breast it really helps to cut the hunger. I LOVE Wheat Thins and if I grab for those, look out, LOL! It only makes the hunger worse! I have to maintain an eating schedule throughout the day b/c otherwise I could go unitl 2 or 3pm without eating easily and then all out eat all night! Anyway, protein is what works for me. Good Luck! Make sure you do breakfast lunch and dinner. I have protein shake or bar inbetween meals. They help curb cravings...... Darlene

How much protein is in your breakfast and lunch? If you make sure that you have enough solid protein in that lunch, it might stay with you longer. Or I like the suggestion to add a protein shake mid-afternoon to get you through until dinner. I'm struggling with getting to my goal weight. My nutritionist suggested that I reduce the amount of protein that I was eating and increase the carbohydrates over what I was eating. I find when I do that, even with controlling the carbs so that they are whole grain or low glycemic index items, I still want to eat more carbs. I'm going back to what works for me, more protein and less carbs. good luck finding your solution, Sue O.

I'm with you Sue the fewer simple carbs I eat the less hungry I find myself. Your nutritionist is giving standard information, but somehow it doesn't seem to work for many wls patients. We do have to find what works for us and follow the program. Best of luck for your continued success.

Maybe you need to structure in a 2-3pm proteincentered snack. If your body tells you its hungry, it may be true and not in your head. Try cottage cheese, peanut butter, a little meal 100-150 calories. Also, warm drinks, tea or coffee can be filling. Sounds like you're doing great, but you can build in for your body. I'm an early riser, and eat early and lunch and not at night because I'm tired and go to bed early. But I need a "something" 3-4pm so I plan for it. Good luck,
