Well, had preop appt at Hos yesterday, and now on to have hysterectomy on Monday...Not looking forward to it (other than no more periods!!). I have gotten so symptomatic lately - painful and uncomfortable.....Please pray for me through surgery and for a smooth recovery. I hope I am not down too long and can get back to exercising, not feel like I'm on "hold" or something...Thanks for all the support... DeAnna

DeAnna, If you're like me, everyone is telling you that you will wish you had done it 10 years ago..... and they're right!! I had mine several years before my wls but I would do it again tomorrow if I had to!! I felt soooo much better afterwards that I regreted putting it off for so many years. Will you be having it vaginally or through a "bikini" cut? Mine was through the same scar site as my c-sections (vertical) which made recovery more difficult but it wasn't too bad. Take care of yourself, follow your surgeons instructions and be sure you're getting enough protein & fluids. If you do that, you'll be fine. The other thing that helped me was to begin walking as soon as possible. If you do that, you'll probably be able to get back to your regular exercise routine sooner - but only if your doctor says it is OK. Take care & good luck! You'll be in my prayers. Vickie J.

I'll be having the same thing in September at the same time as a bladdar lift. Both surgeons indicated that my problems are rather common following significant weight loss as there is no support anymore and everything has "fallen." I was wondering if anyone else know if this is common and why I hadn't heard much about it before. Thanks! Julie

Julie , I had to have a bladder lift as well and have heard that lots who lose alot have the same problem.. I was a light weight but it was enough as I had to do the bladder lift. NOT A TUCK as there is a differnce .... The life as there wasnt any support anymore so I guess as I shrunk so did everything tht was holding that bladder LOL I am so much better now since I had it done. Shirley

Well, I'm home now (got in Thursday morning), and it was not nearly as bad as I thought it would be.... I guess it is kinda common, but not everybody experiences it (pelvic relaxation) kinda depends on maybe size of babies born vaginally, sometimes inactivity and the extra weight causes it...Guess all our bodies are just different and some of us will have this problem and others not.. I did have to have bladder suspension and pelvic floor muscles tightened, but like I said, not as bad as I thought...I did walk as soon as they said I could, did my incentive spirometry (deep breathing) and coughing. Best wishes...DeAnna.

I'm so glad to hear it went well for you and I'm trusting I'll find it to be the same. While I don't really want to have surgery again, I AM looking forward to being able to exercise the way I need to. Would you mind telling me how long you were in surgery and if you work, how long they anticipate you being away from your job?

Hey, not too bad really - In surgery for about 2 -3 hours (will check with husband to be sure) I did have a morphine pump in for the first day/they took it out the next morning..The most pain I had really just felt like I had to pee REALLY BAD, but I believe that was from the bladder pinning, and the approximately 3 in*****ision was right about there....It was laparoscopic assisted vaginal hysterectomy. They put a laparoscope right inside my belly button (not painful at all afterwards), made the small incision about where my bladder is (or maybe just a little bit lower), and that is where they pushed the uterus out once cut loose....But, I was in so much less pain than I thought I would be, I was just amazed. They gave me Percocet for a few days in the hospital and it seemed to take all of the pain away most of the time, and I came home with some darvocet that I have taken a few times...... I am not supposed to drive for two weeks from surgery date, but as for working...I do medical transcription at home, I had surgery last Monday (8/7), and I am pulling a little bit of work to do today (8/15). Don't feel like I will do very much today, but hope to by the weekend...Most of the people I talked to said three weeks and they were back to work, but since I work at home, I can go at my own pace.....Good luck, and if you have anymore questions, feel free to ask, even e-mail me and I'll give you my number if you want to call....DeAnna.
