Physically Can't Exercise?

I broke my ankle 5 weeks ago (2 months post op), so I am concerned about not being able to exercise. Remembered that my parents had done "chair aerobics" at the Senior Center some years ago, and did an internet search for chair exercise. I found a site by Jodi Stolove about Chair Dancing and ordered the DVD. It just got here (took 3 weeks!) and then I let it set on the table for another couple days. I tried it out this morning, and it is great so far. Bouncy and gets the blood racing and definitely aerobic. I don't think I'll like it once I can walk again, but if you have problems that prevent you being on your feet with exercise, I would recommend this as a fun workout- about 30 minutes. Hopefully I will get more coordinated with the thing in the next few weeks as things heal, then as my coordination improves, I won't be such a klutz as to break an ankle in the first place! Anyone have other suggestions about impaired exercising? Linda Q

You can do some upper body toning while sitting - i.e. bicep curls. tricep extensions, chest, back, and shoulder work. Get well soon!

The PBS station in my area has a show using seated exercises, can't recall the name. Perhaps your local station would have something similar. Earlier this week there was a post about exercise videos and somebody posted about chicometrics. When I went to their site, I saw that they also have a "golden" DVD which has chair exercises. Sue O.

Once out of your cast you might consider joining a gym that has a pool and offers water aerobics. If the gym has a heated pool, they probably offer arthritis classes - anyone can participate, it focuses on folks that have limitations. Good Luck! Becky
