Anyone 5'2
Hello Rachel,
I am 27 year old that is 5'1. I had the gastric bypass on May 3, 2006. When I weighed in the day of surgery I weighed 226. I am proud to say 3 months later I am 173. The months have been really tough and challening for me, but it has all been worth it. I decided to have the surgery because not only was I extremely obese but I was becoming a diabetic, I had high blood pressure and was on anti depressants. I have tried various diets and failed. This was my last chance to lead a healthy lifestyle for myself and my family. After surgery I was in alot of pain but thank god I had my husband to help. I believe anyone can be successful with this surgery as long as you believe in your self and have a great support system. Which i was lucky that I did. The first few weeks were probably the hardest. Everything hurt to eat including water. But that eventually went away. I am still having some trouble eating but I think this whole time I have only thrown up a few times. Which is not bad. If someone were to ask me if I regret the surgery I would do it again in a heart beat. Just because I have been rewarded in the end with my weight loss. It is a very tough adjustment to deal with but you get use to it. THe weight is starting to melt off and I love it. I wish you the very best of luck with your surgery and stay strong and believe in yourself and you will do fine. If you have any questions feel free to email me anytime. [email protected]. It makes it a lot easier when you know someone who has had the surgery and they could answer any question you may have. God bless you and Good luck

I think we are twins. LOL. I have HBP and I am pre-diabetic. I hope that I have the same success as you. What is your goal weight established by your surgeon? Do youo find that you miss food or morn the way that you used to be able to eat. Thanks again for sharing your e-mail with me. Good luck in the rest of your journey!

Hi, Rachel. I'm 5'3". Is that close enough? I am a 42 year old woman. I weighed 265 pounds when I had my surgery 23 months ago. I suffered from: GERD, PCOS, hypertension, metabolic syndrome, high cholsterol, high triglycerides, obstructive sleep apnea, and ostoearthritis. I took about 10 different pills to treat theses various ailments in the morning and again at bedtime and I slept with a CPAP machine. I had surgery on my left knee and on my back as a direct result of my weight. I was only 40 years old. It took me 13 months to reach my goal weight of 140 pounds and I have maintained that weight loss for 10 months.
XOXOXO,
Sharyn
Hi Rachel, good luck on your journey.
I'm 5' 1 1/2" tall, starting weight at pre-op appt of 260 lbs, surgery morning I weighed 239 lbs (surgeon requires a pre-op weight loss). I currently weigh 123 lbs, goal weight was 130 (set by surgeon). I made my goal weight by 9 months post-op. Went down to 119 lbs by my one year anniversary and was told I needed to eat more to stop the weight loss.
So instead of eating 3 meals a day, I started eating 3 meals and 2 snacks (or protein shakes). The weight lose stopped then. My weight flucuates between 121-124 now on any given day.
Almost 18 months post-op, I do recommend you follow your program and learn to re-eat healthy foods. My journey was very easy, no complications and never a desire to eat. Now that hunger is back I do have to make good choices, it's definitely not easy, it is work.....but I never, ever want to go back to MO, I'll do what it takes to stay healthy.
Life is so much better, I'm truly enjoying this journey.
Best wishes,
Dana
Hmmm interesting, I wouldn't think height has anything to do with amt of loose skin. What would really impact the skin issues are age, genetics, skin elasticity, number of years obese, smoking.
Well to your question, yes I do have loose skin, not as severe as some I'm seem but I'd love to have PS to get rid of it. The most troubling spots for me are my arms and thighs, then stomach, then breast. So if PS is ever in my future with money not being the issue, I'd much prefer getting my arms and thighs done vs. breast and stomach (heck I can cover that with clothes easily, but I do want to wear short sleeves and shorts.)

Rachel, I am not 5'2", but I do sense you setting the stage for possible problems down the road: comparing your results w/ those of others. Wander over to the Main Board. One question that dominates from time to time is how I am doing in comparison to others. It is a devilish question, because everyone's bodies are different and seldom do any two people follow the same path even when they start off in the same place and/or end up in the same place. Typically, newbies will find someone *****ally had spectacular results, and become anxious, angry, nervous, despairing, etc when their results do not mirror those of their selected superstar. Learn what you can from the 5'2" crew, but remember that your results will be unique to your own self.
Best of luck,
Jay

Hey Rachel!
I am 5'2" and my starting weight was 303 with a BMI of 55.4. I am 14 months out and down to about 168. My goal is 135 and I have 33 pounds to go. I have lots of loose skin (see my profile for some pics of my arms). I exericse religiously doing cardio and weights but it has not helped with the loose skin because it's just stretched beyond repair. I am saving $$$ for plastic surgery. I wish you the best! Hugs, Tracy
P.S. I think it's an excellent idea to learn about other people's experiences while you're preop and still deciding if this is right for you. I read every profile and every book on weightloss surgery I could find while I was preop and it tremendously helped my decision making.
