Why do newly post ops eat what they shouldn't
Yes they are making poor choices so early out. Eating too much, bad choices of food, etc, What gets my blood boiling is that they come on the main board, shout their menus out, wait for absolution and commiseration, and then continue on with the same bad choices. They will ignore the honest posts from people who have the experience, and instead side with those who enable or encourage them. And then you know the inevitable (I am on a plateau - I need a revision) posts will come in just a few weeks.
These posts make me cranky and make me want to stay away from the board.

Hello Marylyn,
I can help a little with that answer. I am now 9 months post op but I am one of those people who woke up hungry after surgery. When I told my surgeon that the morning after surgery, he replied, "I know from that comment your surgery was complication free". I didn't get sick off of any foods. I was wishing I had lost my appetite like the majority of people that post here. In fact the only way I was reassured that I had WLS at all is that I could only eat small amounts of food. So imagine waking up from surgery with the same cravings that you had before you went under the knife and the only built in restriction is the size of your stomach. My doctor progressed my diet a little quicker than normal because I was hungry all the time. I lost weight prior to WLS doing shakes and low carb which I continued after WLS. The funny thing is, now that I am 9 months out, I am JUST NOW becoming very sensitive to foods and my hunger is disappearing. I can't stand anything fried, I can't do milk products now (I drank skim milk and ate lowfat yogurt early on with no problems), I used to eat sugar free chocolates and now I have no desire. I was so happy last week when I dumped after eating some raisins. It was the first time I dumped on raisins. I can't explain the change but I am happy because I was afraid that I would be one of the failures that WLS doesn't work for. So far I have lost 60 pounds and gone from a size 24 to a size 18. My loss is on the low side but my doctor says that I am within the expected range. I've tried everything possible to increase the speed to no avail. I had my PCP test my thyroid, test for PCOS, test my hormone level. She said that everything was normal and I just have a slow metabolism. I am thankful that I had this surgery. Now I know why I could not lose weight, no matter what type of extreme diet I went on. I want to lose at least 60 more pounds so I am continuing on the low carb path.
Because weight loss surgery is not brain surgery?
Because weight loss surgery does not change bad habits overnight?
Because some people expect that by slicing and dicing their insides they have been afforded the secret to success?
Because nobody told them that anything really had to change...just the amounts, not necessarily the choices?
Because their surgeon was happy to get paid to do his/her job?
