It's good to be back, but I'm embarrassed...

It has been almost 5 years since my surgery and I am embarrassed to say that I have gained 20 lbs. My lowest was 165, from 265, and I am now up to 185lbs. I find myself reading all of the miracle weight loss articles in line at the grocery store, and wondering if I can find that magic fix that will get me back on track. I joined weigh****chers, counted points, I am journaling at I-shape.com and according to their "rules of weight loss" I should have lost a million pounds. I eat approximately 1600 calories a day and I am an avid exerciser. I work out for 1 hour every morning (I sweat) and at least 5 nights a week I walk 45 minutes at a good clip, on a very hilly path. I am not dilluding myself that I have and do make bad choices at times, I like a glass or two of wine in the evenings but I also work very hard to maintain a balance of enjoying life and eating right, but somehow it doesn't seem to be enough. Coming back to OH and reading all your posts, I realize I am not alone, and going back to basics, gastric bypass basics, might be my only solution; however, I was enjoying being NORMAL there for a while. Not a post op 3 oz eater and not a "big girl" Any advice would be appreciated. Barb

Barb, it's interesting you made the comment about being "normal"---when I talk with people that are having difficulty, I often hear that. I guess we would all like that, but we aren't and never will be, we've had our insides rerouted. Are you not drinking with meals? Are you eating protein first, yes, those are the basics. You're quite right that you're not alone. The further we are from the "honeymoon" period the more we appreciate that time. Stay here with us, we'll help you through it, we're cheering you on. Hugs, Connie

Hi Barb, I surf the Over 50 forum and one of the girls posted this website for us folks that are struggling with weight gain. It is interesting because it gives you the calculation for weight loss and how long it will take you. Its cool www.calorie-count.com/calories/calories-goal.php I am 5 years post op and have gained 30 pounds, really disappointed in myself, but with this calculation maybe I can get back on track..... Good Luck (to us) Marilyn

Marilyn Because we have changed our inners I am not sure that these sites can truly help us with caloric intake? I was told by my Dr that people that have done WLS need to be ~200 calories under the recommended. I did not find out why that is though perhaps my next visit we will have to chat on that more. And its funny if I subtract 200 from the number that the sight gives me...that is where my Dr said I should be for maintanence. Sorry to hear about the gain. Its hard to keep the weight off. Where is the magic pill when you need it! Have a good day! Debbie
