A really great point!
Hi -
I just read the following rant by Susan Maria Leach, and I thought I would share it. It is very insightful, and I think very pertinent to so many who are struggling...
Michael
From Susan Maria's Website:
"There are too many people gaining weight back after having bariatric surgery! Now that I have rounded the five year post op corner I find myself in the minority; those who continue to live within the boundaries of my surgery.
I tend to run into more healthy eaters because of my book and nutrition business, so when I venture out of my little world I am often shocked by the people I meet who have had weight loss surgery and have moved along on their merry way. This wouldn't normally be a bad thing but for the fact that they are otherwise unrecognizable as a bariatric graduate. They are fat... some are plump, others are obese, a smaller percentage even morbidly obese again.

Hi Michael,
I agree with Susan. I think people are mad here because she tells it like it is and it doesn't sit well, so they pu**** off as her trying to work her business. I think she is a savy business woman, *****ally cares about this stuff and the people going through it. But, if you see everything she says as "business", of course you will be turned off to any semblance of worth in her message. And.... that can be part of an on-going addiction, just not recognized as one.
She doesn't ask for people to order from her, but she does care that some are not making it. If she throws in a possible "cure" for what your problem is, a person is free to take it or leave it. Too bad her "rant" that one time turned off so many people. She was right on in what she said, maybe too blunt for some and just not in the way she may have said it. It's really easy for us to dismiss what hits us in the gut, isn't it?
Just a thought. ... and I agree with you, her message was a good one
Marilyn
I guess one of the things that turned me off was how she went on about how those of us who have gained weight are chasing off future bariatric surgery patients and that maybe we should not have had the surgery in the first place. It totally left me unopen to any of the things that might be good in the article. Just seemed like she prefaced good things with lots of blame and "shame on you" stuff...D.
Hey DeAnna
How's it going?
Did Mickey King fix your ulcer problem?
So Sorry to hear about that!
I just read back and saw your previous post.
You had your surgery 1 month before mine.
I was with Byars, but King was part of the team that
Pulled off the -"Put Humpty Dumpty Back Together Again!" -Surgery.
I had a rough start, but have been Very, Very Lucky
At avoiding regain or "Bounce Back" weight.
So Far? So good.
Hope all is going better for you each day!
Best Wishes-
Dx
Hi Dx, you are such a sweetheart ! I always enjoy "seeing" (reading) you on here!
No, have not been back to Dr. King in a year or so, it is just too far, and he just fusses too much at me for missing appointments. But, also, the ulcer became acute - lost lots of blood really fast, and saw a GI doc here (Jackson) at the Baptist Hospital. Had 4 units of blood, but it did stop on its own or with the IV medication....
I am really struggling with getting back on track - and now that I am back to exercising and have the hemoglobin back up, I am actually having a hysterectomy on 8/7. But, you better believe, the second I feel fatigued, I am going to RUN to the doctor and get an iron/ferritin check. I am really trying to get back to focusing on protein.
Am a BIT bitter about gaining "bounce back" weight - I really want to get that off - well, I say that but still continue to grab (graze) way too many carbs and BAD stuff, so tomorrow I WILL concentrate on GOOD eating.....
And, you look great from your pics! One day I will actually make a profile and put some pics up. Do have some on the MS board from the Brookhaven bash.
Thanks for all the support you give so willingly....D.
