Signs of a stroke or nerve damage?

Hello Everyone, I've been experiencing numbness and loss of mobility in my left arm and hand. I'm thinking that it is most likely nerve damage (though, I do not remember 'doing anything to them' recently) because they are the same symptoms that I experienced in the same arm/hand four years ago prior to have nerve surgery performed on my left elbow. I mean...Joshua even had to hold the jar of baby food for me while I was feeding Alexis and had to lift her bottom for me when I changed her diapers today (how DO people with only one arm cope anyway?!?)... Anyway...I'm just trying to get some feedback because my PCP will be out of the office all of this coming week and I wanted to know if I should *try* to schedule an appointment with a neurologist (a referral is required per insurance) on my own...I don't really won't to stroke out, or anything else of that nature. LOL (((Hugs))) ~~Sherry P.S. Please forgive any typos...typing with only one hand really sux...but, at least I AM right-handed. LOL

I have had four surgeries to correct a problem with dislocations in my right shoulder. From these surgeries I have developed nerve damage and arthritis going down to my hand. Do you think it may be possible that your elbow surgery has done the same thing? I would also say that maybe you have carpal tunnel - although unlikely since you are right-handed. The fact you are having trouble lifting the baby's bottom - that suggests to me that you should probably try and get in to see someone this week -before your doctor comes back. Is that possible? I hope you find some relief soon, Laura

Hi Laura, I don't *think* that it's from the previous surgery...that took place almost four years ago. I am waiting for the office to open for the day (IF it does) and go from there. (((Hugs))) ~~Snerry

Hi Darlene, I just had much of my labwork drawn last week and am scheduled to have more drawn next week (had my DEXAscan this past Friday)...so, I'm not sure...I will have to get back to you on that. (((Hugs))) ~~Sherry

I was going to ask the same as Darlene on the Bs. Make sure they do all the Bs. I know a few folks that had symptoms of nerve damage, neuropathy and stroke and it was a B1 deficiency. Post your results when you get 'em. The symptoms could also be a pinched nerve due to a vertebrate in your neck/upper back. Be sure to explore it all. I hope all is figured out soon. Sorry you are dealing with this, honey. {{{{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}}}}} Kathy

OK. none of us are doctors. You need to call your pcp's office NOW. if they are out of town they HAVE to have someone covering. sudden numbness and weakness is not for us to determine. I would thnk a numbness or weakness from a vit deficiancy would be gradually occurring, but as I said I am not a Dr and ONLY a dr is qualified to diagnose or treat. arm numbness/weakness could be caused by any number of things from stroke, heart attack, (which your insulin resistance increases the risk for) or nerve damage among I am sure a hundred other thigs. be safe. You have a number of health issues if I remember right., and are under Drs care for them. you owe it to yourself and your kids to be evaluated by an MD. HUGS! and let us know what happens

Hi Sherry, I am entering my 4th week of left arm/neck/back pain with tingling in my fingers getting worse by the day. MY PCP kept insisting it was muscle spasms, I doubt it, think it is a nerve, can be extremely painfull too. I go for an MRI tonight to see if there is a pinched nerve or maybe a disc problem. After all that I have read on the boards today I have to make sure I take my vit's. I usually only take iron & B12, I am going to go back to the clacium & Multi vit as of today.... Best wishes
