Protein Problem
I am at my wits end. I have always had a problem eating meat. I have regained 20#, because I can't eat meat. All I can tolerate is carbs, yes, that includes sweets.
I can eat a very little bit of meat and it causes me to reflux it up....It makes my stomach feel very uncomfortable. I want to lose the weight before it gets worse. Has anyone had this problem and if you haven't do you have any suggestions? I have ask my surgeons office about it and they have said to take Reglan, but that makes me sleepy and I can't work. It doesn't seem to help anyway. Please help, I am desperate.
Thanks,
Jan
Jan, I am sorry you are having problems with meat. Is it all dense protein, ie beef, chicken, pork, fish, shrimp, tuna, etc? Do you do protein shakes? How about cheese, cottage cheese, etc?
I cannot imagine what you are going through as we know how slider foods are so much easier to get down and eat more of. I hope you find a dense protein that fits the bill for you.
Sorry I can't help, I do wish you the best.

Jan,
I too have avery hard time with meat as well. Can you eat fish? How about boca burgers? I marinade garbanzon beans and kidney beans in ff italian dressing and eat it with cottage cheese. I also do ricotta with either a little no sugar added sauce or sf preserves and splenda. How about a fritatta? Just a few suggestions, good luck

You can get protein from lots of other places. I am not a big meat eatter, by choice, it's just not a preference and I'm not a cooker. I do Boar's Head Lunch meats, , tuna, or grilled chicken occassionally. If I eat out (meaning someone cooks it for me LOL) I eat fish or shrimp. And occassionally I will do turkey or beef jerky if I find some thats not gonna break off my teeth. I just bought teriyaki from Oberta, that is nice and soft and filled my sweet and salty craving.
But mostly I eat dairy: Carb Countdown Milk, Ricotta Cheese, Cottage Cheese, Fat Free Cheddar or Swiss singles, sometimes I'll buy yogurt or yogurt smoothies. I also hard boil eggs and just eat the whites.
And I do supplements: AchievOne premix bottles and Unjury choc or vanilla powder. I have done Stalone protein pudding in the past, but havent ordered any in awhile.
You can add protein powder to lots of things: SF pudding, yogurt, oatmeal.
Peanut butter and nuts are also sources of protein, bu****ch the fat and calories per portion.
Some low calorie protein bars I will grab from the gas station instead of other evils options are the snickers marathon bars(they range from 150-250, but the 2 that say for women or low carb are 150 and 170 calories, and
Jan: Have you also tried protein bars. I finally resorted to the Southbeach protein bars for additional protein help. They have 19 grams of protein in 1 bar and about 230 calories. That should give you a little more protein. I have a hard time with the shakes and my doctor suggested protein bars. Best of luck to ya.
I don't do meat either. Chicken makes me vomit too. I concentrate on cottage cheese, yogurt, cheeses of all kinds. I have been making cheese quesadillas. I can eat about a half. It is a nice change from cottage cheese! I still do protein shakes and bars and probably will for the rest of my life. I quite frankly don't miss meat at all. I'm still holding my goal weight and not eating meat hasn't hurt me thus far! I am very faithful with my vitamins and exercise so I think all things balance out in the long run.
