Raw Vegetables

Here I am, a few days shy of two years out and I still can not eat raw veggies without paying dearly for it - horrific gas and sometimes a tummy ache. I give them a try every once in a while but still no go. My doctor said (before he left a few months ago) that I may or may not ever be able to eat them. The nature of the beast. **sigh** I pine for a salad with cucumbers and carrots. Anybody else have this? Or a remedy perhaps? I still wouldn't undo this amazing journey and still thank God and Dr. Drinkwater for saving my life but I sure would love raw veggies....small price to pay I guess. Judi

Typicaly, raw veggies cause these problems because they sit in the gut too long and kind of... ferment... for lack of a better word. That's what causes the horrible gas and bloating. Have you tried anything to aid in your digestion like papya enzyme tablets or something like that? The papaya tablets might help your bowels move the veggies along more quickly, giving them less time to sit in your intestines and cause problems. Just a thought!

HI, Like you I crave salads and fresh fruit, I never ate these foods before my surgery, I have trouble eating meat, thank god I found a delicious protein powder to drink, anyway I take a couple of senna tabs a day. They say they don't work like laxatives and they work for me. I just worry that I eat too much salad at one sitting. I just can't get enough. I never liked ranch dressing before. I love it now (I use the lite version). I don't get the dumping syndrome so I can tolerate sugar, I wish I couldn't. I am down to 203 from 347 since 4/27/05 so I must be doing something right but I have hit so many platues and I'm hitting one now. My goal is to get under 200. I haven't been there since I was 20 years old. I haven't even taken a picture of me yet I'm afraid to. I will soon though for everyone to see. Have a great day everyone.

Do you think beano would help? I think people without WLS have trouble with raw veggies, so something like that might do the trick. I have trouble with fruit sometimes - 2 bites of an apple and I'm SO bloated.
