Freaked Out
I would like information from anyone who had an endoscopy done prior to surgery. I want to know if an biopsy was done due to either any evidence of esophagitis of the esophagus or gastritis of the body of the stomach or both. I had one done and I'm all freaked out. I want to know if anyone had the surgery after the diagnosis. I read about it and I didn't like what I read, so any information would be gladly appreciate it. I'm scheduled to have surgery on July 14,2006.
I had an endoscopy prior to my surgery in 2003. I remember that I had something wrong (maybe esophogitis) - my esophagus was kind of black and irritated where it went into my stomach. Due to acid reflux I think.
The doctor put me on protonix (which caused abdominal pain) and then put me on something different. It didn't bother me at all throughout my journey and didn't affect my surgery. I will say I like not having the dang acid reflux since losing all the weight.
It is weird how the farther out from surgery you are, the less you remember about things that were critically important! I wonder if I had another endoscopy what my esophagus would look like.
Anyway, that's what I remember.
Good luck with your surgery!

I want to thank you very much for your help and quick response. I'm suppose to hear from my doctor whether tomorrow or Thursday about the results and I pray that it's only acid reflux that can be treated with medication. I've never thought of having any problems with my stomach and now this happens. I pray that it's only a delay and not a permanent one.
Anyway, thank you for everything.
Problems with the Esophagous. I would not delay the surgey because of possible problems that may develop about the esophagaus. Many people that are obese have untreated acid reflux which can lead to many other serious problems. Losing weight will help reduce acid reflux. Cancer of the esophagaus is very deadly and very serious. I am speaking from first hand knowledge since I am the moderator of an Esophageal Cancer group on MSN. There is a good number of people that have had cancer of the esophagaus were morbidly obese. I wish you good luck.
