Weight same; inches increasing

Anyone else found that while their weight remains steady, they're spreading? I've added 1.5" in my abdomen and across my derriere in the last couple of months even though my weight has stayed the same. Granted, this is ALWAYS where I carried my weight prior to surgery and I was delighted and shocked to find that I lost weight there post-op. First time, I felt normally proportioned in a lifetime. Is this just my body readjusting to it's "normal" weight distribution? If so, I've got to find something to halt it in it's tracks! Julie (2.5 years post op)

Dear Julie, I hate to say it, but where the weight shifts to is driven more by your body type, genetics, age, and sex than any effort you will make (other than plastic surgery). Did you see the article about Jamie Lee Curtis a year or so ago where she didn't have anything air brushed or "fixed" but just showed her real self and her real body? It was great to have this beautiful woman talking about how her body was changing (spreading/shifting) and learning to accept it. Best of luck, Sally

Unless you are diligently exercising and keeping those muscles toned, you can increase in inches. Keep in mind that muscles are more dense/compact, while fat cells are fluffier, even though your weight remains the same. It also has to do with middle age spread or what is often referred to midlife expansion; during this time, especially women discover that the weight accumulates around the stomach, rather than hips and thighs. Other possible causes reduced physical activity, slowing metabolism and the genetics factor. Mary M.
