Throat Problems....
Hi everyone,
I am almost 16 months post-gastric bypass and as of this morning, have lost 193 pounds...yeaaaaaa! Basically...I feel great!! However...I experiencing some discomfort that I wanted to ask if any of you are going through the same thing.
First, I need to give a bit of history. I had a stricture (the opening leading from my stomach kept shrinking) and could not keep food down. I had seven dilations (endoscopy with a balloon down my throat to streatch the opening), the last one was December 20, 2005. Food was staying down, no problems until about February. The newer problems were diagnosed as a bad gallbladder which was removed on June 5, 2006.
For almost a year now, I have had a steadily increasing feeling in my throat...just where th "V" of the collar bone is at the base of the throat. It feels like "something" is there. I put it off to the fact that I had the dilations but, when I went six months with no tubes down my throat, I thought that feeling would ease up...it hasn't. Sometimes when I turn my head, it feels almost like something is "catching".
This is not a painful thing, just uncomfortable. At times, I really have problems swallowing...like it's not an "automatic" act...I have to "work" at swallowing. I know I had another tube down my throat for the gallbladder surgery....but, in the months between the last dilation and the surgery, that feeling was getting worse.
I hope I dont sound like a crazy person...and that what I said makes sense. I just wanted to know if anyone else feels that "tightness" in their throats.
When was the last time you had your thyroid checked? I have thyroid issues and at time my throat seems to close up and I have a choking feeling, sometimes leading to coughing or swallowing my saliva wrong and I kinda choke on it 'til I get my bearings. Just a thought. Otherwise, I'm not much help. Good luck and God bless!
Thanks for the information. I do have a complete physical scheduled for next week...and I will certainly ask my doctor about my thyroid. Tonight, my throat feels as if someone has a hand around my neck...not a fun feeling. I scheduled the physical because with such a big weight loss, the stricture, the dilations and the gallbladder surgery...it wouldn't hurt to be examined from head to toe, make sure everything is as it should be.
