Cherry angiomas?
My WLS was 11/01. Within a month or two I had a few small cherry angiomas, also called petechiae. Within the past 2-3 weeks, I've suddenly developed a lot of these - in the 30s - on my legs and arms mostly. I saw a dermatologist who diagnosed these and my primary care doc has ordered labs, etc. - but I'm wondering if these are a consequence of what is probably very poor nutrition and the roux en y... I've not done so well with the vitamins and healthy eating selections since about '03.
Any insight appreciated. Thanks,
Cathy
These can be related to low platelet count which my husband has though I don't think he has many of these because of it. While he did have WLS, his platelets have apparently been headed in a downward direction long before the surgery. We know his spleen is enlarged which is related to the platelets. No diagnosis yet.
I don't know that the petechiae are related to nutrition. I hadn't read that. I know facial ones can be brought on by vomitting.
This is your life you are talking about and you need to remember how important vitamins really are to post-ops. Nutrition/protein too.
Good luck to you, Kathy
I've had petechia on one side of my body~up my leg and on my back and abdomen~for years, since I was like 12. Every dr I've ever gone too couldn't really give me any explanation for it except that I may have had some kind of trauma to the right side of my body (I used to compete in gymnastics). Wls has not made it worse. I hate the fact that it looks ugly on my leg during the summer b/c I have hundreds of them. I want to go to a dermatologist to see if I can have them lazered so they don't look so noticable, but haven't done that yet. I'm curious what your dr will say about them b/c you've had an increase in the number of them.
Good Luck!
